Hi,

I have browsed the forum loads for advice and reviews so I thought I had better introduce myself. I am a 30 year old (boo hoo!!!) amateur hobbyist from London. I have been interested in magic for years but have only been actively learning it for about 5 months.

I love close-up magic (Michael Ammar, Daryl, Jay Sankey, Paul Daniels (especially his chop cup routine), Eugene Berger (although I need special equipment to hear that low!!!) and mentalism (particularly Max Maven & Derren Brown (live, not really into the TV show) and Andy Nyman).

As far as techniques and tricks go, I am currently working on a magic show to do at Christmas for my girlfriend's family. I am trying to knock something together out of the magic I feel confident doing. This includes a few packet tricks (Killer Elite, Monte 3.0, The Hidden, In a Flash) a few card tricks (Your Signed Card, Ambitious Card, Reset & That's It), and a cup & ball type routing using the Magus Capsule.

I can do some card control, false shuffles and cuts, a few false displays, a couple of card and coin palms and I am currently trying to learn the Himber Vanish for Jay Sankey's Mexican Jumping Coins and the Classic Pass, because I enjoy severe wrist pain!!

In a nutshell, I can do a few techniques and a few tricks but I have next to no presentation experience. I work in Major Account Sales, so I am articulate and am used to talking on the fly, but performing magic for strangers scares the living wotsit out of me. I also have no experience of grouping the tricks into a routine. Love magic, love learning magic and want to perform. That's about it really. :-)

Hi Flunkie. Welcome to TM.

It's a shame you dont live nearer Ipswich as we have had Michael Ammar and Andy Nyman lecture recently (and so I am told Sankey and Daryl not so recently).

Sounds like your Chrismas show will be fun.

Simon

that would be cool. i am going to International Magic's convention in a few weeks. There is a gala show on the sat and sun evenings. Roberto Giobbi is one of the performers. I am really looking forward to that. There is a dealer day on the Sunday - my credit card is trembling with fear as I type.

Flunkie,

Welcome to the TM community... I'm sure you'll enjoy it here.

Whereabouts in London are you? I'll be going to the IM Convention in November too. My missus has got me a weekend ticket for my birthday (30th on Sunday  ) She'll be joining me there for the Gala on the Saturday, but I don't think she fancied all the lectures!

Look forward to reading more from you,

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
