rubber band magic

Postby dlite1972 » Oct 28th, '05, 15:13

Hi guys, I am new to the forum and would like to buy some dvds focusing on impromptu magic with everyday objects. I see lots of stuff on the web but it is mainly Jay Sankey material. Tihis may not be a bad thing but I am fed up buying effects that use American money and gimmics. Are there any good british DVDs out there ?
Thanks. :)

I am not sure about DVD's, but you can download from penguin magic a trick callled "Quantum Bandits" and it is a great effect using two regular rubber bands. Look at the demo vid and let me know what you think!

Most rubber band magic can be done with ordinary UK rubber bands as long as they're not the very wide flat type. However, Staples and other stores are selling the US type number 19, 18, 17 etc and you can get a huge bag for a small outlay. Dan Harlan has released a lot of rubber band stuff on DVD and the routines are international and great fun to do. The late Dan Turcott did some great stuff with bands but as he recently died, I'm not sure what's happening about his downloads and so on. Anyway, try the Search function and you'll find a lot of ideas and suggestions about band magic - then you can try searching for the coin stuff - loads of that here as well!

I have come across his rubber band magic videos on the net and would like to know if anyone has these and how good they are. From the clips that i have played it looks quite impressive. I have never dealt with this type of magic, is it difficult to get to a competent level ?

About your gimmicks etc. Why don't you get routines that use non-gimmicked materials, or get more into slight of hands, without the need of gimmicks? I find the use of gimmick un-necessary, and should only be used in to achieve something totally impossible that will give you a huge reaction...

I have been using cards now for 2 years but want to look into other types of magic. I like the idea of using everyday objects that people can relate too.

Good point.

Look into Dan Harlan tapes, and Ammar has a icebreaker video as well. And... of course, Sankey has severals...
