Dave Campbell Legacy or Complete Walton?

Postby eryanic » Nov 8th, '05, 13:20

Hi, I'm thinking of getting either one when I visit london
Any thoughts?? Anyone with either books, please reply and it'll be greatly appreciated. Btw, I did do some research before posting this....but the previous threads did not quite answer what I wanted to know.

to make things easier I'll number the questions I'd like to ask

1. These 2 books have LOTS of material. But how many effects do you actually take away from the book(s) and perform regularly?

2. What kind of sleights are involved in the book(s)? Are there lots of passes, false deals, AFTUS??

3. Are most of the effects require a table?

4. For those of you who have Phil Goldstein's "Focus", how would you compare the book(s) with it? Are they similar in method and effects?

5. Anyone has performance clips of the effects from the book(s)?

Message from Mods: Thread moved from Reviews as this is a request for a Review.

Hi...
thanks for your reply..good questions there
1. What is YOUR experience in card magic?
--> i would say I'm intermediate (though it's rather subjective, but i know most of the card controls, false counts, lifts, shuffles...BUT i am not a big fan of the pass)

2. What sort of card effects do YOU like?
--> Practical card magic for close up...angle proof, direct

3. What are YOUR current Favourite Card books/DVDs?
--> Books : John Bannon's Dear Mr Fantasy, Impossibilia, Smoke & Mirrors + Card College series
--> DVDs : mark Jenest Miracles while you wait, David Williamson Magic Farm, Ammar's ETMCM, Darwin Ortiz Scams & Fantasies,

4. What are YOU looking for in a book?
--> effects that i will be take away from the book and perform regularly. Again, this varies for everyone, we all have different styles and likes/dislikes.

So, for people who have either book, I'm just asking for YOUR opinions on the book...an innocent request! :)
Thanks

Well they're both good books (although the complete Walton is actually two volumes), and it's difficult to recommend one over the over. If I onky had a choice of keeping one though, I think I would stick with the Walton's*

However, as you obviously like the mind of John Bannon, I would also recommend to you Simon Aronson's "Try The Impossible" book. Absolutely beautiful, and worth it alone for his "undo principle".

I will be reviewing this book properly at some stage

* John Boy was always my favourite

Damn, I knew I had forgotten something when I reviewed "Bound to Please"!

Dave Campbell Legacy - Put simply this book is awesome, I cannot reccomend it enough. Although I thought it was pricey (£35) I have taken 3 very strong effects from it that I would happily paid £15 for each!

1. Beyond Belief, the best printing effect I have ever known. In my eyes even better than Daryls Presto Printo.
2. Irish poker hand. Fantastic 5 card routine with a real kicker ending.
3. Dotty spots. A nice change from your normal routines.

I have perfomed these effects at my magic club, and have blown people away. When I get asked to spill the beans, my answer is "Sorry, I want to keep these for myself. If you want them then buy the book!"

And do you know what, they have!
