Is this allowed in the US? In Australia it's called collusion and is illegal. I would expect the US to have similar competition laws, but maybe not.

In any case, if the maker wants a product sold for $40 not $30, it can raise its wholesale price above $30. If there is room for a $10 profit on a $40 product, I would be very displeased.

We are seeing
retail $40 = retailer profit + wholesale price
PM $30 = PM profit + wholesale price

thus retailer profit is at least $10. This is retailer profit, not Sankey profit. Nobody can justify $10 operating costs over PM.

I did find a link to Jay Sankey's Astral Projection saying "Please note: This package does not include a DVD." just the props suggesting something is amiss here. Surely Jay can sue breach of copyright for this?

PM does have the lowest prices, but better than that is a match any price guarantee eg like on www.MJMMagic.com
I always find my low price on the web/ebay then email them to match it so I get the best of price and good service.

I think what it is, is that penguin have lots of old unsold ones. I think the version with the dvd will be a newer version.

I agree, because they're still trying to sell off all his older tricks they still got. Out of interest, has anybody e-mailed or got in contact with penguin in anyway? I' mnot saying we should, i just wandred if someone was that angry.

Mahoney is correct - Penguin is selling off their stock of the original effects (before Sankey repackaged and produced the dvd's to accompany the merchandise). The disclaimer they put up is meant to protect them from that very problem with breaching contracts.

Can i ask, why o nearth does it say ' For a LIMITED TIME, you'll save an INCREDIBLE 25-72% on our entire range of Sankey Magic tricks and DVDs! Just in time for Valentine's Day! ' ???
Is this just a way to sell Sankeys products?

Something else 'a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing magic to critically ill children '. if i was critaclly ill, seriously, i would rather let the docters treat me correctly, okay i understand that it may give you a hobby (mentioned on the site) but i'd rather have my friends and loved ones near me, supporting me. Not a guy from penguin magic saying he's gonna give me free stuff but then sign me up to some contract like when you buy a ringtone.

That's a bit late. Besides, who buys magic for Valentine's Day? It sounds like they were trying to shift dead stock a.s.a.p to recoup whatever they could!

There's a window on Sankeymagic.com which says:
Penguin Magic is NOT an authorized Sankey Magic dealer. They lost the right to sell our products in the fall of 2005.
Penguin has repeatedly asked to be reinstated but we have said, 'No!' Since then Penguin has launched several sales in an attempt to unload many old out-of-date versions of our products still sitting in their warehouse…..

I don't get it. Jay alludes to not getting paid by PM for stuff. If PM has repeatedly asked to be reinstated wouldn't that be the time to clear up $ demands? So what exactly is the problem left? If it's old unsold ones and not ripoffs then is it just the discounting?

What's on the DVDs for single trick purchases? I can't get onto
Sankeymagic.com cuz they expect everyone to have Macromedia Flash. Which I will never use as it's just for animated ads on news sites and can't be turned off. If I miss out on one legit usage, too bad for them.

Surely this means that PM were buying Sankeys goods, and up front as well if they've got a warehouse full of his goods?

They were, but then they messed about so they are not allowed to buy any new stock. Sankey has his money from whatever stock PM had already bought, so they are selling it cheap so they can clean the shelves of his stuff probably to make room for some Magic Makers s***e (or s**t, depeneds on where you come from )

I never bought anything from Penguin Magic and I never will.

I think they must be boycotted.

Salute.

Pulling up a old post because...

I recently got Sankeys gratest hits 3 DVD set and my boyfriend took one of the discs out of the DVD player today and said "this is a copy, the back is purple and there is a gap between the outside edge of the disk and bit of the disc that has info on it" Is it really a copy? The picture on the top also looks a bit rough around the edges. Anyone got any ideas? Could it be a fake? How can I find out? Is this why I only paid £30 when everywhere else is selling for near on £50?

I was unaware of this problem with penguin before I got the DVD set.

Magic is real, just look around you, some of the most amazing things have no reason, no explanation but are very real.
