I agree with ace of kev and rcarlsen. This is stage magic masquerading as close-up. I hated it when David Blaine pulled the same stunt with his watch through window (in that instance it was stage magic masquerading as street magic), and I hate it now.
I love and perform close-up and it annoys me that these guys try to pass this off as close-up magic as I am now expected to levitate 4 feet, stick my arm through shop windows and now pull salt shakers through glass tables!
I'm not knocking stage magic, as there are some wonderful illusions and illusionists, but these tricks would have no impact if they were performed on stage. To achieve the desired effect, they rely on the fact that they appear impromptu and outside a stage-managed environment. However, this comes at a price; they raise the expectations of close-up audiences.
Apologies for the rant, but I am just fed up with being asked to perform this kind of rubbish, having to bite my tongue and nod sagely when told how much cleverer these guys are because I can't perform it on demand.
