free trick that i just made up

Postby eagleeye » Dec 28th, '05, 16:13

i just made up this trick so it should be allowed

using spray paint you could spray the back of a fan of cards without the audience seeing them... show the audience cards with black backs(if you used black paint that is), light them on fire... when that goes out fan them the oppisite way (if the top of the deck was on the right of the fan at first now fan them so the top of the deck is on the left of the fan) they will think the fire made the deck change color... (this must be done fast as when the paint starts to dry even a little... it will not burn and the trick will suck

i promice i did not get trick from anywhere... i just thought it up like one minute ago so i should be allowed to share this secret
[/b]

please write to me if you liked this trick

please tell me if you have a way to improve on this trick

i know it may seem lame at first but my hopes are that it works well as a good show starter

by the way, when you square the deck that should put out the fire

I don't fancy my chances of squaring a flaming deck! How do you stop it burning your fingers?

I think that using spray paint is just overcomplicating a trick that should be relatively easy.

1. You could do the old blank-deck trick - if you fan a Bike deck neatly with your left hand it will seem to be blank.

2. If you were to get hold of a split-back red/blue deck you could do the trick easily - fanning one way will make one colour and fanning the other, the other.

3. A fanning deck will have many patterns you can make by fanning different ways - e.g. Dragon deck has 6 different patterns.

4. And finally, there is a sleight using a fanning deck that will change the colour visually - it's very hard though! It's on Art of Card Manipulation vol.1

Hope that helps,

Kati

I think we can all appreciate the thrill of coming up with a new trick/effect but I must interject here.

I have worked in the film and television special effects business for over 20 years and I promise you that it is very unwise to go about using flamable materials to set light to props in a rushed and impromptu manner, especially when these props will be handled by unprotected hands.

Leave fire effects to those who have the experience and training in the proper use of proper special effects materials. DO NOT go about using spray paint to set playing cards alight...ESPECIALLY ones held in your hands!!

Having had to put a friend out once who went "woof" when he tried his newly-filled lighter without wiping up the spillage first, I heartily concur!

This has nothing to do with the topic, but Eagleeye, can you please wait until someone answers, instead of just saying, "Can someone please answer" every two minutes. It is called spamming

First off, Tom's spot on about the use of fire.

Secondly, it the paint is still wet and you square up the deck, when you re-fan the cards in the opposite direction then all of the faces will have smudged paint across them, from the back of the card that is in front.

Just sounds very very messy to me. The paint would smudge all over the place if it was wet - on your hands, dripping on the floor and all over the other cards. It sounds like a great way to ruin a deck of cards to me.

there are better and safer ways to accomplish this effect....

I had a variation of this trick. Except I used high grade plutonium.

No, I agree this sounds like the anarchist cook book for magicians. Except more dangerous and less intelligent. This is not of course a jab at you eagleeye. I admire the attempt and the thought. I would suggest before you attempt any fire effects though, you do extensive study on the safety and research into the chemicals themselves. And until you know them better than how to cut a deck, not to even think about it.

Speaking of though, You know what I have always wanted to do? Roll a cigarette with flash paper and light it. Of course this comes from my imagination of a "flash" then a bunch of tobacco falling to the ground ala looney toons. I know this wouldnt happen. But boy would that be cool!

On the positive side, you've got what appears to be a young guy, junior member who's at least trying to think up his own presentations and that in itself should be commended.

Despite the negative comments about your post, don't let this put you off and certainly don't let it deter you from posting in the future.

Learn from the constructive responses and chuckle along with the funnies.

Yeh, we have nothing against you and we do not want you to stop inventing because you could invent somethig great one day, but that effect just isn't practical

Absolutely! Anyone with a mind that can come up with such ideas is a mind worth getting to know, to see what else is up his hopefully considerable sleeve.
