I went out to dinner last night with friends and as usual I'm always asked to do a few table tricks. Mrs dat get a little fed up with it at times so I wanted to take along just one trick, but one that could be strung out for a few minutes that would keep them guessing for some time afterwards.
Giving this some thought I came up with an ID routine as follows. I don't recall seeing this before and it really started out as a development of an existing and common ID deck routine.
To begin, I made up some ID's using a red, blue, green and black decks of Bikes - four decks in total and I began by placing these on the table in front of everyone so that they were in view the whole time.
I then produced a brand new sealed and shrink wrapped deck which a spec opened (I used a new deck of Ghosts so that all of the decks were different which I thought had more effect than using five decks of the same colour).
Next, a spec opened and then shuffled the ghost deck and removed a card, passed the deck around to the next person who shuffled and removed a card until four specs each had a card. They were placed face down in front of the spec on the table, each having looked at their card but not yet revealed it to me.
Once the four specs had a card each, I took back the Ghost deck and ribbon spread the remainder showing that it was a deck made up of different cards.
I then went into the patter of having made a series of predictions etc. and then in turn, each spec selected one of the coloured ID's by naming the colour. I went on about the characteristics of the colour, red equaled tempered, hot headed, blue was cold and calculating, green was calm and indecisive whilst black was mysterious. This got a few laughts but worked out fine.
The first spec then turned over their card, I opened the boxed ID selected by that spec and then spread the ID in the normal manner and showed that their tabled card matched the single face down prediction card in the ID. I then placed the matching card from the ID on the table and re-boxed the ID.
The next spec turned over their card and I took the coloured ID that they had selected and so on.........
The reaction that I got was well worth the effort. Although this is a standard 'single deck' ID routine, I was told that it looked even more astounding using four different decks to make four preditions, which of course were all correct.
I was wondering if anyone had seen the ID used like this before?

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
