I have holes in my hands

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

M4G1C14N - I don't know about you, but I don't always have the luxury of choosing where my audience stands. No offense is meant here, but I wonder how often you perform in front of an actual audience.

For instance, if I approached a group of people at a table, having just finished dinner and ordered coffee - could I REALLY walk up and ask the people on the left side of the table to get up and swing their chairs over to the right?

You can't always position your audience, bro. As a result, certain sleights are better suited for certain situations.

Would I have to learn to play the guitar to join this thread?

HEHHEHEHEHHE

Well, I've played guitar for 20+ years, and piano/keyboard for the same, and operated computers for at least 25 years. My fingers are gapless, but I don't think this proves anything! (maybe because I like red wine and fine dining?)

Anyhow...

The way round this little palming problem is to use cards which are sympathetic to the condition in the short term. Bee decks are best—they won't 'flash' as much when you're palming.

Also: consider this... if palming ain't working for you, and it seems frustrating, then knock it on the head. Concentrate your efforts elsewhere... it may simply be that your hands aren't built for concealing... and unless Slydini's ghost appears to give you some lessons on true misdirection, you may just be stuck with the way you are.

I agree with Seige on this one. I've given up on the whole palming business due to the fact my hands can only just cover a poker sized bikes. I used to use the bridge size but I've been told these are being discontinued.
For effects such as card in mouth rather than palming I do the mercury card bend. Other than that there are loads of great card tricks that dont need palming and I concentrate on those.
I however you really want to palm then I reckon if you misdirect correctly your audience probably wont even notice the card under the gaps as all attention should be on the deck itself and if you steal it and drop your palmed hand out of the way I reckon you'll get away with it.

I have holes in my fingers, i mean, between my fingers. Theyre not 3mm wide, more like 2. I think mine are due to playing basketball for 16 years and having one to many awkward finger bruisings and dislocations.

As far as plaming goes, i find that i can palm a card with just my palm, between the base of my thumb and little finger, but that might just be due to the fact that im 6'8" and have big hands, hence the basketball. That said, if im actually doing a trick that requires me to palm a card by means of one hand top palm where i cannot get the card to the base of my little finger, i find that by simply tilting my hand to the side slightly can eliminate the view of the card between the fingers whilst still maintaining the card to be unseen from underneath. Plus, if you keep your hands moving and use misdirection, it takes a lot of heat off the fact that your holding anything in your hand anyway.

Hope that helps, from the view of person with 'holey hands' to another!

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...
