Here are my tips then on trying to overcome C.U.P.S. - worked for me anyway!

It all really started when I really looked through my boxes of gaffs and gimmicks and the like. I roughly estimated how much I had spent, and realised that I barely used any of it, and that's what really did it for me. So look at your bits and bobs and just think what other, possibly more useful stuff you could have spent that much money on.

Another thing was the fact that I just fell in love with the idea of really pure stuff. Always being ready to go is the other factor that did it for me.

I myself still get the occasional twitch, but I think - I probably won't use that, can't really afford it anyway. Then I put it towards maybe a book or something, with a lot more routines, then when I get the book or DVD the gratification validates my controlling of my C.U.P.S.

Not sure how much use that will be to anybody, but you might like to try it! :D.

Cheers Cardza and very wise words.

I will look into the dark recesses of the junk stuff drawer and lament at all the wasted cash. After that look at each DVD and see how many tricks I know off each one. Once that has sunk in I will attempt to start work on sleights and routines that I have been putting off due to their difficulty.

Hell I might even try and perfect the blasted classic pass I've never got down.

In fact I pledge from this day on I shall never again succumb to C.U.P.S and I shall become a better magician who will not be attracted to flashy internet magic advertising and neat looking gadgets!!

Mind you that black widow thingy looks great......where's my credit card?

Dammit!!

was having this problem and bought "pressure" and "ninja coins". To make it worse, i combined the routines, so I only have one illusion costing £55.00 instead of two.....I cant even self justify that one

Being from the Boston area, I assume you have made the trip to Hank Lee's. And yes, you have C.U.P.S., but at lest is sounds like a portion of your purchases are books, so you have a better chance of getting something usable out of your purchases :)

I have...sadly... never been there once...I am hve been trying mto get my mom to take me there for about a year now, but she just absolutely hates to drive. She said she might take me in two weeks though because ever since I joined here, I have started to ask more and more. Might ask my dad tomorrow, maybe he'll take me....

I mostly buy stuff from Ellusionist and have boughten Psychological Subtleties and maybe another product from Hank Lee's online store.

Off to call my dad.

That's a shame, it is an interesting experience. Depending on where you live, there is Diamond's Magic in Peabody, good prices and the guy who runs it is a pretty decent guy.

I live in Stoughton (South-West of Boston) so Peobody is even further. Good news is!:

I just noticed that they have instruction on how to get their by train so my mom said that she would take me next weekend (this Saturday she is having a guest over) so I'll finally go there and hopefully become a regular. Too bad I already bought all my books...d*mn you C.U.P.S. into forcing me to probably buy even more when I get over there. Off to browse their site to see what I might find in their store.

Welcome fellow sufferer. Leave your credit card details at the door, take a chair and have a cake.

Is there a stop close to the shop now? Back in '77 (or maybe '78 ) they were reasonable close to the Lechmere stop (they were at 24 Lincon St. back then), but the last location I went to was quite a way away from the original shop (but much, much larger and not on the third floor).
