Q: How many decks?

Postby Option » Mar 2nd, '06, 14:18

Many card tricks require rigged/ cut/ glued/ duplicate cards. Some tricks require destroying a card. So I was wondering, how many decks of cards do you all have? Does it get expensive? I guess some tricks you can do with cheap cards, but sometimes plastic cards just won't do...

I do card tricks for fun with friends and have avoided damaging my cards, but now I want to get some 'proper' cards. ebay seems to sell them in various sized lots... :?:

Impossible to say, but what I do, when I have a deck, which I don't feel "work" anymore (old, floppy cards), i don't necessarily throw them away. They are perfect for dupes or stuff like that, when you need that in other tricks...

Personally I buy bicycle seconds for £1 a pack and tend to get through a brick once every 4 or 5 months.

Check out magicbox.uk.com for seconds. I have had loads and haven't yet opened a pack with any visible defects. If you do get a some with defects then I'm sure you'll be able to come up with a routine based around repairing the ace.

I have been banging on about the seconds from Magicbox for a while. I thought I was the only one using them!

They are a real bargain.

I keep all of my old decks. They can be used for torn and restored routinesand as doubles if they aren't too far gone.

Then maybe I am just tight!

Me too. People keep saying “check these bikes for just £2” and I say “get seconds” but noone listens

Maybe we should stop telling people or they might run out

I have bought seconds on a few occasions but during moments of boredom they have fallen into the trap of practice for my MCF.

I by a mixed red/blue brick from magic box every couple of months, as I normally open a new deck every week after various cards have had beer spilt on them/suffered a few poker games/got signatures on them/been destroyed/been given away/etc. You know how it is.

However, for things that use regular decks and finish the same way I'm using my black back cards alot more. I've got 5 decks of those coming tomorrow. I find, unlike black tigers and vipers, that they look cool enough to grab attention but not to raise suspicions or confuse your spectators. For £1.99 a deck I ain't gonna argue as they're a refreshing alternative to the typical red/blue.

seconds not a bad idea, but magicbox in the UK is the only place I found online that sells them. shipping + currency makes it a bit expensive...

i:m thinking of buying a brick off ebay then use $1 decks for practice/dupes etc.

Yeah i buy seconds too, get through maybe 6 packs every 3 months. The only defect i have seen so far is the colour printing being slightly off on the court cards, and thats only by 1 or 2 mm.

I just the seconds for practice, and i use normal Bikes or my other decks (Ghost, Black Tigers, Vipers, etc.) for performing. I just prefer to have the proper card boxes when im performing, rather than the ones that have 'Seconds' written all over them. Yes, i know, im picky.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...
