I don't use a Raven (though I know its workings) but I do use a Bat, and I do think the Bat is more versatile and better for a table-hopping type situation than the Raven. Of course, the Raven does a great vanish or change (something which the Bat cannot do nearly as well), but requires a re-set between tricks. If you're going from one table/spectator to another, that isn't very feasible. Also, that's all the Raven does. The Bat requires no reset and can allow you to perform a number of effects, if you really explore its possibilities.

Though I don't bother attempting a vanish with it (again I agree, best left to the Raven) I do like the PK rings effect - the specs assume you must have a magnet concealed in your hands, and are wowed when you roll up your sleeves and show them you haven't (or even get a spec to take the top ring with the lower one still clinging and spinning!).

With repositioning (or even a second Bat) you can do some great table PK effects. Some of the newer UK 1p and 2p pieces are "compatible" with the Bat (if you know what I mean) and you can amaze people by making such a coin move on a table - if you've borrowed the coin from a spec, (and make the coin move in a subtle way) the effect is even better. Some might assume you could be using some very fine IT, but you can then show you're not!

The Bat

Postby jabba01 » Apr 23rd, '03, 12:20

I have just recently bought the Bat and have to say that it is great, especially as mentioned with those special coins. I also have the Raven but have not got round to practising with it yet. i am looking forwards to finding the time.

I have heard a lot of reviews about both, it seems to me that The Raven is better. But this comes from a person with not much experience with either item. :)

with the bat, these effects ive seen in the videos seem to have the magician showing his hands closed. are your hands examinable when using the bat?

I had the raven then sold it to a m8 - I also got the bat which I've kept.
In my opinion the bat is more versatile and in answer to your question your hands can be shown completely empty with the bat

If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??
