This kid is good, and i think he'll crack them all pretty quick..

(little sod!)

xtreme beginnerz dvd ( http://www.handlordz.com/ and http://www.superhandz.com/ are the main sites for it but can get it in other places )

its what im learning it from now its covers most of the basics and some advanced stuff so give that a try.

as for this stuff combined with magic, during a routine I would NEVER dream of using it, but it can be handy to grab peoples attention - let them know your the entertainment and yes... you may actually be good at it. :D

I agree with the consensus here, particularly Goldfish and the content of his post.

Flourishes have traditionally been used for some routines and for one, I tend to use one pareticular 'false' slourish in particular to make it appear that the cards are being mixed.

I think that there are two kinds of flourish. The traditional and simpler ones such as the Charlier for example, that look nice and because of their simplicity can enhance some, but not all card magic. On the other than, there're the XCM / showoff type of flourish which in my opinion definately detract from the magic.

He seems more interested in flourishes, so I guess I'll let him go down that path, shame really as he's a really good magician so far, long as he's happy!

Thanks for the links.

btw, have you seen the "cobra cut"

again, just far too flashy, and doesnt really seem to have any point, another showoff!

that's the old magical masturbation for you.
it's nice and all but ultimately un-productive!

saying that, i was showing someone sybil cuts the other day, and how you can take them to about 10packets if you can be bothered. we all indulge in self love now and again ey

If you try to force someone to do something that they don;t want to do then they will end up resenting it.

Let them make their own choices and then support them.

I haven't seen it myself for for good XCM I think Brian Tudor's "Generation:Xtreme" and Dan & Dave's "The System" are the sort of thing your after. "The System" to me appears to have much more of a "flourishing" theme to it, whereas "Generation:Xtreme" seems to havemuch more of a "Visual Show Off Magic" theme to it. You can watch previews here:

Generation: Xtreme

The System

There is also a DVD called "Show Off with Cards" but I've heard it isn't very good.

When I do flourishes for laymen, they seem to enjoy it... you just have to know which flourishes look the best for laymen, e.g. Dan and Dave's "Mary Jane" as it's different using a fan within a cut.

I'm sure the majority of people here do card springs too... wouldn't you call that a flourish? I'm just saying, don't be too put off by flourishes especially the ones that can really grab attention.
