Collective Nouns please!

Postby Mandrake » Apr 5th, '06, 18:30

We have a Coven of witches, a Herd of cows, a Pride of lions etc but what about the collective noun for magicians? I found one online source which stated that it should be an Illusion of magicians but I wasn't impressed! How about we make a few suggestions here and see if we can influence the great wide world accordingly?

We need a collective noun for:

Magicians
Illusionists
Conjurers
Escapologists
Mentalists

and (even though some folks will bitch about this!)
Card Flourishers.

I'll start the ball rolling with:

A Wand of Magicians
An Appearance of Illusionists
A Silk of Conjurers
A Restraint Escapologists
A Divination of Mentalists

I won't attempt the last one - just in case  !

Smashing.

How about:

A Shuffle of Conjurers.
An Occlusion of magicians.

Pretty cool little experiment. This is all I could come up with right now. I'll keep thinking, though.

A Bluff of Magicians - I wanted to fit Telchines in here, but it doesn't work as a collective noun. This may be too "cardy" for some.

A Chimaera of Illusionists - I just like that word, but it's not really a good collective noun. Perhaps a better choice would be

A Feint of Illusionists?

A Rise of Conjurers

A Bolt of Escapologists

A Thrall of Mentalists

A Deck/Pack of Card Flourishers - Yes, it's dull and so typical - but it DOES fit

I like "pack" XCMers nice double meaning there.

A "suit" of magicians

A "mind" of mentalists

Thats all I could think of and they're pretty pathetic I like some others though!

Cheers,

Don't know about a magicians, but I reckon it could well be an angle of spectators.

The real collective noun for magicians is a misdirection.

To find out that and some other useless bits of information go here.

I like a Mystery of Magicians,
A Deception of Illusionists
A Production of Conjurers, as abraxus put (bearing in mind that conjuring used to relate to making demons appear)
A Release of Escapologists
A Sigh (Psi, geddit?) of Mentalists
A Fancy (fan, see?) of Card Flourishers
