Hello, all! My name is Kent Kingery, and I thought I'd introduce myself as a new member.
I've been doing magic for more than 30 years, having started around the age of 6 with my first Adams Magic Set (which I still have). I joined the local IBM ring as a teenager and had the good fortune to be mentored by Gerald Edmundson (whom some of you may know as the author of "The Ostrich Factor" and the various Jocomo books).
My "real" job is as a technology consultant which allows me to travel around the world, meeting other magicians and generally having a good time. While I did do some paid performing in my college days to help with the bills, I am now an avowed amateur and tend to use my magic more as an ice breaker with my clients.
I'm interested primarily in close up and parlor magic, mostly with cards, coins, ropes, and the like. Over the years, I've tended to stick with the classics (cups and balls, linking rings, coins through the table, etc.) rather than the "flavor of the week" effects. I routinely harvest from Tarbell when looking for new pieces, but I do admit to buying an awful lot of books on our craft.
Well, that was probably too long, but hopefully it gives you a flavor of who I am and why I'm here. I look forward to contributing!
