Two quick questions!

Postby Scott Daly » Jul 13th, '06, 15:22

Excuse me if this is repeated elsewhere, but I'm pretty new here and didn't have much joy with the search!!

Q1 Can anyone point me in the direction of some good routines using the "gallows"? pitch sleight? I have recently been working on this after picking it up from Sankeys real work on restaurants and bars and anytime anywhere DVD's (highly recommended) and now I would like to utilise it in other ways! I've tried doin stuff with sweets like starburst and this is coming along well, but is a long way off being a "great trick"!

Q2 Again sorry if this is a repeat but where is a good place to start with rope sleight of hand? Some of the stuff I have seen is awesome but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew at this point for fear of scaring myself off! I'm thinking more towards close up stuff too! I have used the equal / un-equal ropes before and didn't struggle with the moves or false counts!!

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Your searches may have been unfruitful because you spelled Gallo wrongly.
Try a google for Lou Gallo, etc.

Secondly, there's been tons of rope threads started on the forum. First starting point would be check out magic dealers for Rope DVDs or books, and then search here or elsewhere for a review.

Thanks! I didn't think I had the right spelling or name from other searches I've done, that helps a lot!

I've already checked out retailers for rope routines and as I said I've seen some great stuff but from the descriptions or demo videos and my lack of knowledge in this area I can't work out weather they are using knuckle busting sleights or not and I would hate to over face myself!

Please don't think I'm fishing for explanations or methods, this isn't the case, but maybe the name of a DVD or marketed effect I can try my hand at without having to be "a pro"

Thanks again!

Others that I would recommend are:

Daryl's rope magic DVD (3 DVD set for around £40), various levels to work through.

Flips rope magic

Jahn Gallos Ring and Rope

Tabary (this is fairly advanced in terms of the others but a great routine)

Once you've worked through Fibre Optics then you will be familiar with a lot of what's on the 2nd and 3rd titles. You'll also be working with un-gimmicked rope what is where it's at!

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
