Old Decks

Postby Organi » Jul 20th, '06, 17:05

I've just switched over to a new deck and not wanting to just dismiss or throw away an entire deck I wondered what I could use them for. What does everyone else do with their decks once they're too old to perform with and whatnot?

It depends how damaged they are. I use some for practise and making gimmicks. If they are not too bad i give them away for people to play cards with (took some down the local OAP home). I get through a lot of decks so i buy them by the gross.

use them to practise card tearing effects.
or if they stick together a bit then use them to practise fancy cuts.
or for making your own gimmicks

This question has been asked quite a few times before,

Like Stephen, I generaly give them to friends who play cards, it gets them very used to seeing the brand of cards you use for magic ;)

I made my wife dissapear just by arguing with her!!!

use them for card signing effects. I always want to do tricks involving signed cards but I can't bring myself to ruin a perfectly good card

Not to sound a little dumb but I don't know many card tearing or signed card effects. I think ambitious card is the only one I know :/

Does anyone know some that I could look up in RRTCM or Paul Zenon Street Magic (when it gets here :( )

the ambitious card can be improved mightly if you don't mind ruining a couple of cards. i usually don't sign cards as i want to keep my deck, and all that cal. but the other night i only had an old deck with me do i let someone sign a card, instantly more effective, and while i was ruining a card i though "what the hell" lets do a pop up card too, that always seems to ruin a couple. and again, great reactions. i might start using rubbishy old decks more often

All of the above.

Extra cards for stacked decks, replacing signed cards so that a deck isn't ruined, torn and restored tricks. I never throw decks away, I am too tight!

I use them for stranger cards when I need some duplicates, and for destroying when trying out new gaff ideas.
