You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

I once spilt a pint over the shoes of Mutley McLad of The Macc Lads (I thought he'd batter me but he appologised!), and I see the dull half of New Order in Tesco's a bit, but they're not really "celebrities" in the sense of trading off their fame? Ithinkthey were all born in the borough, in fact.

I did once see Jean-Paul Gaultier in the Half Moon Cafe in San Francisco, but I can't say I actually met him.

I met Derren Brown through someone who was working at the venue.

Thought I'd join in on this one. Now let me see:

Bananafish
Derren Brown (signed Pure Effect and Absolute Magic for me after his show last year)
Joe Pasquale (helped unload his props from his van - he had LOADS!)
Mick Miller
Bradley Walsh
Bobby Davro
Keith Harris
Orville (I count him separately because he's the real star...)
Visage (Winners at Blackpool last year - I (loosely) worked with them on a weekly basis a few Summers back)

From the list, would you believe I used to work the Holiday Parks?!

haha

really?

Makes you wonder how a stand up comedian can have so many props.

I guess it was all his magic etc

haha - but he doesnt do much.

On his DVD "does he really talk like that"

he has loads of stuff out on stage but doesnt use all of it

 Do we have enough room here for this list?

My first celebrity would have to be Elvis Presley in that he was in the Army with my dad and theres a photo in the family alblum of him changing my diapers... but I don't know if that counts

I am related to several VIP types such as country music legend Kitty Wells and Tipper Gore (wife of former Vice-President Al Gore) as well as Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia and with the exception of Mr. Gore & family, I've met all the above.

Professionally and Non-Magic Related I have met and/or worked with the following; The Osmonds, The Beach Boys, Grace Jones, Devo, Eddie Rabbit, Styx, Marilyn Manson, Dolly Pardon, Porter Wagner, Shields & Yarnel, Waylon & Madam, Jim Henson, Sid & Marty Kroft, Tommy Tune, Jimmy Stewart, Earl Halerman, Phylis Diller, Bob Braun, Elvira, Prince, The Jacksons, Vincent Price, Orson Wells, Robert Wagner, Carey Grant, Dom Delouise & Family, Bob Barker, Betty White, The King Family, Horace Hieght, Dick VanPatton, Red Fox, Fernando Rey, Steve Martin, Mel Brooks, Robbie Benson, Madlyn Kahn (sp), most all of the Brat Pack of 80's film fame, Ozzie Osborne, Alice Cooper, and Dick Clark (there are others but I just can't remember them all... sorry.)

Magic Related Personalities include; Harry Blackstone, Mark Wilson, David Copperfield, Peter Pit, Don Lawton, Dai Vernon, Ger Copper, Paul Daniel, Siegfred & Roy, Kirby Vanburch, Max Mavin, Tom Ogden, Davino, Valentino, Lance Burton, Fielding West, Jeff Hobson, Mark Kaylin, Ayala, Jeff McBride, Carton & Co., Martin Nash, Falkenstein & Willard, Mark Edward, Arnold Furst, Ormond McGill, Dean Hankey, Mark Kornhouser, Stan Allen, Stan Kramien, Abb Dickson, Todd Robbins, Jon Stetson, Simon Lovell, Mac King, Franz Harary, Ray Pierce, Dean Dill, John Gaughan, Bill Smith, Ken Whitaker, Channing Pollock, Shamada, Princess Tenko, and at least two or three dozen others that presently slip my mind...

I could add to this significantly when it comes to politicians, world leaders, famous scientists and authors but why...

PLEASE don't let this make you feel wierd, I've been on stage and working around this business since I could walk. It's only natural that I would be in situations that allow for so much contact... then again, I did more or less live at the Magic Castle for about three years which is where a great deal of my magic world contact came from.

Once you actually step into the professional world, it's amazing how fast your end up meeting some of the legends in this business; discovering that they're just people like you are.

Me

Postby Piers » Jul 23rd, '06, 19:51

I met Rob Andrew of Rugby fame some time ago ... did some work for David Berglas ( and his PC ) recently.

Also the school nurse where I teach, is the mother of Derren Brown's ex flatmate.

And have met many of the 70's and 80's US Comic writers and artists.
( Sorry if that's a bit nerdy ).

Met Cecil Parkinson, if anyone remembers him also.

blah, blah, blah ...

Piers.

Joined this thread a bit late... ah well :)

I only have one claim to fame really. I met JK Rowling back when she was still not famous (and I was about 5!). I'm still kicking myself about not getting her to sign my copy of HP!

Anthea Turner! She sat behind me at the Buxton Opera House one time... can't remember what we went to see, a panto probably. This was in her Blue Peter presenting days, so I was quite impressed!

I offered her a sweet and she said no, she was on a diet. Bitch.
