Business Card query

Postby greedoniz » Aug 21st, '06, 17:25

Hello

I already have business cards but they are really bad and were bought on a whim after a boring day at work for £2.50.
I have decided very soon to try and walk around my local area and try to drum up some business in the local bars and restaurants and will have to get some decent business cards so I dont look like a total amateur.
I have done web searches for business cards and for the most part they are cheap and nasty or dont have graphics for magicians.

Those that do have graphics tend to be a rabbit being pulled out of a hat or some other cartoony graphic which really doesn't suit the image I am trying to convey.
If anyone knows of someone or some site where I can get professional custom made business cards could you give me a shout.

I would design one myself but graphically I have the talent of a monkey with hiccups.

Don't go and use ready designs they are usually lame and tacky.
What I suggest you is to get a friend that knows a thing or two about Photoshop or just about painting that can customize a design or you.

My business card have a black and white sketch "portrait" of me holding a fan of cards and a joker card in my mouth and a magic wand on the side, my friend sketched it for me, and I edited it in Photoshop, it's not amazing, but I like it^^

Great advice although the only problem being to the best of my knowledge my friends are pretty talentless on the artistic front too. I suppose I would need to pay a graphic artist to come up with a design and then get loads printed from that.
Now all I ned to find is a graphic artist who wont charge me the earth.

You will also find that printing business cards with a graphic is more expensive. Depending on what it it it can cost twice as much and to be honest, most companys don't use them other than for their corporate logo.

You can get some really classy cards made up WITHOUT any graphics at all. Simple is usually best in my experience.

If I may ask, you say that you bought your current cards at work. Was this from a printer that your work does business with? The reason that I ask is that if you work for a company then speak to the person that looks after your companys printing as they can often put you in touch with someone that will run you some cards off much cheaper than you can get elsewhere. It's always worth a try.

In the UK you can find machines in public places that print business cards. They are 4 pound for 50 and are quite good quality. They have a good selection of logos and are on good cardstock

When I said I bought them at work I meant over the internet whilst I was meant to be working rather than getting business cards on the company account. Although that is a good idea.
I could get those really really expensive ones printed on metal.

I have personally found the ones available at booths to be a bit maff but I will keep an eye out for a decent booth.

Thankfully someone on here who has talent as a designer has offered me their services so fingers crossed.

My advice would be get off your hiney (with all due respect!) and go to a proper printing shop that does business cards - they will be able to show you all the types of cardstock/font/colour you could want (if they're any good) and often have folks around to design you your own graphic, although I would agree with the "no graphics" advice - "stay classy" :)

All due respect taken!

I am getting off it as we speak and will be popping out this lunchtime to inspect local places as well as looking into having one designed specially.

And as far as "staying classy" goes .....I always stay classy, for example the back of my business card with have a naked chick on a motorcycle holding a machine gun......Classy
