Do you love pen thru note effects, but don't like gimmicks or set ups? Maybe you have checked out other methods only to find out they have complicated or impractical handlings that put you off performing them, leaving you waiting for a method that doesn't involve any of these downfalls.

Ben Williams' Liquid Money is the solution. A simple, direct, easy handling of the pen thru note effect that is 100% impromptu! This is the perfect effect for a bar or club, walk-around or if you just wanted to freak out a cashier in a shop!

The effect:

The performer borrows a note of ANY currency and very cleanly and openly folds it in half lengthwise; the performer then borrows a pen from a spectator and inserts it into the fold. The note is shown to be surrounding the pen, then slowly and smoothly the pen melts through the centre of the note, both are then instantly handed straight back to the spectator for inspection!

I say:

Right, where to begin? Firstly, what they say is true. See the list above. The only thing is that I wouldn't call it "super easy to do". However, it's not hard to master and only slight misdirection is needed throughout the whole routine.

There is only one flaw in this effect, and that is that something looks wrong while performing it. I am deliberately being vague here but an attentive spectator may notice that it does not look 100% as it should. If they do they may well be able to figure out.

Note that I am not saying that this is a bad effect. It is not. It's very good. However, it is not perfect (is anything?) and if done without enough work or on a smart enough spectator you may find that they can deduce how it works.

Overall

For me, this effect is a killer. I love the premise of Misled but I never really got in the habit of carrying around the gimmick and so I have never used it much. Now, I can have the same effect but without having to carry anything around!

I'll leave out the rating though, hopefully you can deduce for yourself whether you want to buy it .

Do you have "Misleading Mislead", and if so how does it compare? (This is also a gimmick free pen/pencil thru bill routine).

I have the "misleading misled" also, and I to wonder some compare with this effect.

I unfortunately don't have Misleading Misled...is it worth getting?

Thought I should mention that currently Liquid Money is available as an instand download only. As it requires no props or gimmicks, we wanted to release the effect with the smallest price tag as possible (£7.99), but a DVD version arounf the £20 price mark should be released in time for Christmas. When the DVD is released we will probably remove the download version from sale.

Well it depends... if "liquid money" is based on the same move as the "misleading misled". U wrote that it dosnt seems 100% fair how u handle the bill and the pen,,,, well there is a common problem in the "misleading misled" to. I dont know, but it seems it maybe are same move. Well I cant obvious explain the move, but in my eyes, it seems same.... But maybe it could be different.

Woah, £20! Will it just be the one effect on it or what? It's a nice piece of magic, don't get me wrong, but isn't £20 a bit expensive for just the one?

Looks very good, better than misleading misled I have to say - although there's some slightly clumsy misdirection on Ben's part in the demo (does he practice these moves before he makes the videos?! "LABELLED" was also not as smooth as it should have been!) I like the fact you don't have to fold the bill longitudinally first.

Obviously the boy makes far too much money if he's got £50 notes to use for magic...!

I would like to ask though: £50 notes are uncommon and are also huge (we got a few from businessmen who had just been paid in the shop I worked at... trying to buy a newspaper ), is this a "tell" that it doesn't work well with smaller notes? I think most people would be using a £10.

It works with any note at all.

I'll PM the reason I think he's using a £50 as it might tip the method to some people.

I think the reason he is using a £50 is because I'm paying him too much!!!!!!!

I just use a £5 or £10 that I borrow from a spectator and it works great. I sometimes use a pen through anything ( Doud Edwards Wonder-pen) as part of my signed bill in lemon ( a little magic along the way), and often get asked to repeat it, that's when I do Liquid Money, as it just stops any backtracking right in its tracks!

Also nice to have as many 'off the cuff' effects in the mind and ready to go as possible if you ask me.

My name is Ben Williams, the creator. Firstly thanks for all of your interest. I would just like to say I used a £50 as I actually had to borrow a note and it was my fathers, I remember saying something like you can tell this IS borrowed as it is a £50, it's not that Dominic is paying me too much, not enough if you ask me!!

It does work well with any note, this is just something off the cuff I do mainly at bars and pubs just as something quick for the barman or a friend etc.

As Dominic said we wanted to put the smallest price possible for the download as it isn't a huge miracle (although Dai Vernon did said even the smallest of tricks in the hands of an abled performer can be a miracle (or soemthing very similar!!)) it is fun to do and it uses borrowed objects, as said it is great to have an arsenal of impromptu tricks that are ready to go.
