yep, one more man man has got the BUG, that said always had it a bit, but just now getting into it a lot, My great grand dad was in the magic circle years ago, but I was to younger to remember, just remember finding a magic book and taking the bits from it that I could understand as a kid.

I have told a friend of mine that I will do some table hopping for him in his pub In Jan (in the far east!!!) , OK just for fun, but I want to do a good job, I have the ID (no longer sticking after only a few goes, can someone PM me with what is needed to sort this out, can half work it out, but do not want to mess it up) and a few from ellusionist, but also have a lot that I do not like a lot, and do not want to over spend... opps to late :D So what is a good way to go, looking at getting NFW , Healed and Sealed and half thinking about raven (a few box sets, best one?) Having fun with cards, and read a few saying what is the best DVD to get, so do not want to cover old posts , but always open to help, what is the best money (note) changer out there, Cream looks OK. most coin tricks would not work, as it would look draft pulling out a pound coin, "what is that" most would say :) :o

long post for a first one...... but GREAT site, been reading for hours and hours now!!!

One more thing anyone from near sheffield like to meet up to swop and talk?

welcome to the board.....

firstly id say forget healed and sealed, its a good effdect but LOT of work has to be put into getting it right and its not really practical for table hopping, NFW however is awesome and the raven is good but has been over publicised on TV etc, having said that though it can still be good in the right situations.

to be honest, how about buying michael Ammars "easy to master card miracles"? the videos are full of easy(ish) to master card effects (which from the title you'd never guess!) and are perfect for table hoppers... just my opinion though

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

Hi and welcome!

Just about all the effects you mentioned are covered one way or another in the Reviews section so just do a Search and you should find several more hours of reading! Those you refer to will have their supporters and their critics and it's just a case of what suits you personally. Have a look at Jon Allen's Double Back if you can as this is also a mind blowing experience for the spectators and is in similar vein to NFW!

BTW: Your ID sounds as though it needs some more roughing fluid - check out e-magictricks pages for the details.

Ahhhh Card Miracles, they are some GREAT videos, packed with tricks and explained in a way that is not only understandable but also makes you think YOU can actualy do them, great suggestion :)

If you buy the roughing spray, which you do need for your ID, pm me your email and I will send you some instructions on how to do it.
I am sure the spray will come with directions but I don't know so if it doesn't the offer is there, it is not difficult to do :)

Also, I have no idea how far down the learning road you are but if you have the time try and get a copy of both the books in my sig, these will enable you to do very good magic without the need for constantly buying more packet tricks. With these two books worked through you will have so much confidence in the table hopping area that it will be well worth the effort.

Hope that helps.

Welcome to the board, firstly!

Secondly, it seems that you're at the crossroads we've all been at - "Where do I go from here?!?!?!"

Well, if you're up for table hopping, can I recommend Jay Sankey's stuff. It's fast, direct, and taught extremely well by one of the best contemporary creators/performers of today.

His new DVDs (http://www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=715) are unbelievable - in terms of both content and originality. There's enough stuff here alone to perform a whole act - plus, there's no hefty investments in special gimmicks.

Jay's attitude and style are also based around table hopping situations, and his patter and style are perfect for you to emulate to get ahead in table hopping situations.

You mention CREAM... I'd advise against this - read the review.

It all depends what level of proficiency you're at. The new Sankey DVDs are perfect for beginners and pro's alike, as some of the stuff is direct and new for beginners, and for pros, it's basically a refresher course - but with routines thrown in.

Spending money wisely, something like the Sankey DVDs - which don't just cover cards - is a wise spend. You could spend £+++s on individual effects, and still have nothing to show at the end, whereas buying the Sankey DVDs, or indeed the aforementions Ammar videos, which are VERY good, you get lots more for your money.

Be interesting to hear how you get on...

hi blades just to echo the more learned people on this forum.

mark willsons complete course in magic just about covers every aspect of magic and has some great advise on performance it has been my bible for over ten years and is only about £15.

being the non techy side of this forum i suggest:-

svengali deck for forces.
stripper / wizard deck, makes you a card sharp as you practise.
change bags, lots of uses.
haunted key, still good for getting bookings.
tip trunk, expensive but you could keep your whole act in it like i have and if you get mark's book you can make your own.
sliding die box, kids just love to howll at it.
scotch and soda / gin and orange or very expensive coin unique, great coin effect with lots of uses.
hopping halfs / sun and moon / gold and silver, another versatile coin set.

if you want to go the comercial route and make it easy on yourself then I'm you man, a search for posts will highlight this enjoy magic.

first of all, thanks a lot for all you help, and for getting back to me so fast, almost as fast as a Pendragon on top of a wooden box (one of a fav tricks, and down to just the speed) I think I will be going for the book's Royal Road to Card Magic and Modern Coin Magic Book and also the Jay Sankey's Amazing Magic Tricks Anyone Can Do - Volumes 1-2 I think this will keep me going for a time. getting in the card side of things, even worked out my own trick for the first time that is nice. One more thing I would like to ask if that is ok? Anyone know or think of some fun trick to do on a pool table (I play a lot for a TOP team in Sheffield) but not with cards?

Paul Zenon's book, 100 ways to win a Tenner, containes some sure fire dodges using a pool table (or possibly a snooker table!) and, at less than a tenner, the rest of the dodges in that book are worth their weight in gold!

I see it's currently not available from emagictricks but do a Google search and it'll turn up somewhere - Amazon had them earlier this year at a similar price. Great read and darned good fun as well!

You said not using cards but I had to point out another Paul Zenon one. It was in one of his TV shows and he got a guy to pick a card, then spread the deck all over the pool table face down. The player shot the cue ball round the table and the card the ball landed nearest was the selection. Not too hard to work out or do and might get some interesting reactions.
