Hi,
My names is Lex and I am a very Eager Newcomer. I am also a very late starter, being 36 tomorrow.
Although I've always had a sneaking admiration for magic, I never thought I would be able to do it myself. Last week I was forced to for my mother's 60th birthday and nephew's 18th. Every family member had to do a trick. I ended up doing three, thanks to the people at International Magic, which is five minutes from where I work.
Anyhow, while practising these tricks I got into the idea of card magic and am now feverishly studying Royal Road and Card College, with Born To Perform on the way (for my birthday -- ahhh).
I am working my way through these books and know it will take a lot of time. I will be happy if I can just do a neat overhand shuffle at the moment. It looks so messy at present.
My kids love magic which is a good motivator and my three year old daughter has taken to carrying cards around with her after seeing me do it for the past few weeks.
I work in financial PR (a 'city spin doctor') so the art of illusion shouldn't prove beyond me in the long term.

Hopefully you all will be able to help me along the way!
Alex
