Welcome!
Most people starting out buy 'gimmicks' or what we often refer to as 'self working' tricks. Many online reviews rate the difficulty of tricks and you should be looking for tricks that have a rating of 1, and then as your experience grows move up the scale remembering that the higher the rating the more difficult it is to perform (slieght of hand and misdirection rather than self working)
I would recommend looking at some of the popular magic sites such as Penguin Magic, Magictricks.co.uk and MagicBox where you will find videos of what the trick looks like. Study these video demos before you spend your money and if necessary, look for reviews on TalkMagic. Pick what you like the look of.
DON'T be afraid to ask for advice but remember that we won't reveal any secrets.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
