I agree.
The effect is impressive to all of us because (at least most of us) we don't know how it is done... But think for the spectator: It is still a great and impressive effect, but would it be as impressive as a card to mouth or a paperclip effect?
In that frame of mind, do you really think it is worth £40?
I personally don't think so.
Even though I find it very impressive, I know that this wouldn't have THE STRONGEST impact on my audience; therefore, it is not worth £40 to my eyes... You can get really good gimmicks for a tenner (I think of cigarette through card here), and you freak people out with it...
That's how I personally think when buying new effect. I always think if it would have a strong impact. You need to think for your audiences, otherwise, you spend zillions and it ends up at the back of a draw...
For the same price, I'd get 3rd degree burn... I think that would have a more impressive impact...
