Ultra Smoke 2000

Postby trickyricky » Oct 3rd, '06, 19:15

Hi guys, i've searched for this but cant find a review of it or anything. What i'd like to know if anyone has this is, is it worth the money for a serious hobbyist like myself? Also, has anyone ever seen it on a UK site as i havent found it anywhere but Ellusionist?

Thanks for any info you can give!

Rich

This can be purchased from www.jbtv.co.uk. It is £100 and was once used by Paul Zennon. Search the site and you will see it. Now i don't have this but i have heard good things about this.

Thanks! £100 is a bit steep! If i get this i will probably get it straight from Ellusionist as it is about half the price! Although, judging by the size of my 'to get' list at the moment, it could be a while!

This also looks pretty cool if you are looking for an alternative http://www.magicshop.co.uk/little-smoke-p-1056.html. Only £10, and it says it's a "substance" (rather than a device), so nothing to conceal...

Does anyone own this?

It looks good in the vid clip, but can't tell if its because it has a black background a light is shining directly on this "substance".

Would be curious to see what it looks like in the daylight. or even without a light shining directly on it.

The "Substance" part, reminds me of the smoke from fingertips c*** (not the best) when I was a kid. I doubt its the same, but wonder what residue is left in your hands with this stuff.

wierd - I've just spoken about this in another thread.
I personally do not recommend it. For me it was too cumbersome to set up - and I didn't like the sound of all the warnings and disclaimers. It's also really expensive to maintain. The canisters don't last too long once opened (and they're dangerous to store) - which means you'll be spending a lot more than you pay initially.

I think I've learnt the hard way that it's far better to invest time and money on getting your performance right - than waste it on special effects that you hope will make your performance better. While the audience may remember your special effects - if you want them to remember you, you need to connect with them - and you don't need smoke for that ;).

You're absolutely right there Taneous. Since posting this ive been contemplating whether its what i really want and ive come to the conclusion that, as flashy as it is, it wouldnt really do much for me, especially since i dont wear sleeves very much. Think im better off buying £100 worth of books and dvds! Im tempted by Card College or Art of Astonishment at the moment! Maybe even some of that substance to try it out and review!

Thanks for you're help though guys!

Ultra Smoke 2000 is a really great moment in a routine. BUT! the smoke is wildly corrosive after only a few days, my jacket sleeve had rotted away.

In one of the reviews on Ellusionist, their saying, that you can just wipe it off, and that residue will only be visible after extensive use..
but you say, that if you dont clean your jacket afterwards its gonna be messed up?

I have also read that the smoke has the same effects as smoking, co you actually run the risk of lung cancer

If you see Justin Miller performing on the Army of 52 DVD, it looks like he is screwing his face up every time he releases it to stay away from the smoke.. im sure hes holding his breath.. just my observation on it.

I guess its best to use it outside then, when the wind is blowing..
but there seems to be a lot of negative side effects for that price!
and if your jacket can get messed, than the cards will probably get braun or black, or messed up in some other fancy way..

It would be cewl to use it in a sponge ball vanishing routine though.. but as someone said here on TM (don't remember who) its probably a very addictive special effect, once used in a performance you won't like the performance without it..
and that would be an expensive addiction, plus it would make a lot of inpromtu tricks, very un-inpromtu :P

Today it finally arrived! but exactly on the day I had to take this very important test in the afternoon at school..

In the morning I read through the Instructions as fast as a dutchman can..
and a few hours ago I started the setup..

It took me about an hour to get it all set up and another half an hour to adjust it to fit perfect I went over to my neighbour, (who watches my magic all the time) and told her I met this old man today who taught me a new kind of magic.. just watch..

a did a short Coin flurry and ended with showing her the coin.. than I did a false transfer, and made the coin de-materialize in my hand.. the smoke made the illusion AWESOME! she jumped back.. WOW :D

anyway, I LOVE IT! lol
I brushed of my jacket in the approriate places after use.. and Ill see if it will get messed up or not..

I got my video camera ready.. So hopefully tommorow ill be able to record it.. and show you guys

Let me know what effect it has on your jacket after a few weeks.. If you are walking round sleevless I may well stay clear of this one

The effect itself though sounds amazing, it must make magic so much more powerful
