I think it's the Card Collection that do a little booklet called "Pickpocketing for fun and profit" (   ) which should get you started.

Failing that, if you can find it (I don't think they make them anymore...) then try Stealing The Show. Quality DVD, and one that has given me hours of personal amusement at parties and the like.

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Picking pockets is all about light and heavy touch.

To practice, ask a friend to help you with a magic trick. Get him to put a card in his pocket. Then go on to perform a trick for others. While you are doing your stuff, take the card out your friends pocket without him knowing.

If you go wrong and he notices, he won't say anything because he thinks it's all part of the trick he agreed to help you out with. After the trick is finished and the audience has gone, ask for the card back saying "I didn't need it afterall". If he's astonished to discover it isn't in his pocket then you've been successful.

I agree with Ecko. Stealing the Show is a great dvd and it is taught in great detail. Bare in mind though that a lot of it is based around your spectator wearing a jacket.

More than any other form of magic, pick-pocketing depends on mis-direction. There are some things in magic that you can get away with without misdirection. Pick-pocketing is not one of them. If you are interested in learning pickpocketing, I would recomend buying a book just about misdirection.

Are you looking for just pick-pocketing or watch stealing as well?

If you like the idea of watch stealling, by Chappy's DVD.

wristwatch stealing is relatively easy and the right choice of watch wearer makes it even easier - this is all about misdirection as is most pickpocketing techniques..... by making your stooge focus on something else you do something they aren't anticipating therefore don't register.... it takes sevral overall moves to get a watch but interspersed with some other comedy pickpocketing they wouldn't even notice....
