why did this never occur to me before

I have almost always got dice on me, from teaching maths.

I've never ever looked into dice magic.

How dumb am I?

Where do I start?

I've never seen "dice magic" but I would imagine you could do some type of monte type routine.

One quick search throws up these results at magicshop.co.uk: Dice magic. I'm sure there are plenty others out there - dice stacking is becoming popular too.

I found dice stacking quite amazing the first time I saw it. It got a bit dull after that. :?

Well I'm particularly partial to card magic and illusions (and yes I just restarted learning magic)

I'm sure you can find coin magic useful. Find applications of coin sleights (like retention vanishes) and apply them to dice magic. Then make up some routines. Invent more sleights. Invent some routines. Write a book. Publish the book. Sit back, and enjoy the income :D.

I would think that you may need to see some more stacking routines. Two books you may want to look into (if they are still available) are How to Stack Dice for Fun and no $ by Clarke "the Senetor" Crandall, and Shoot the Works by Ed Marlo.

dice stacking

Postby Marvell » Nov 28th, '06, 02:16

This Video on You Tube is about the best I've seen and half way through I found myself looking down to see how much was left.

Dice stacking to me is a demonstration of skill; a skill the audience does not have. Yes, it might be useful for a wow in a trick, but it's not going to become part of a magical performance on it's own, just like XCM. The audience can have many positive or negative reactions ot displays of skill.

Sorry to have a real downer on this one.

I like Silver Dream, but I'm wondering if you can use dice in the same sort of way that you use cards. You know, people have a general grasp of cards; the distribution and probability associated with them.

I'm thinking that dice have a great potential to join together the "object" oriented magic of coins and the probability oriented magic of cards.

Dice have many features I think I'm going to explore.

in my local magic shop in glasgow there is a really nice effect using a die. basically spectator makes a scret choice of one of the numbers on the die puts it into an examinable little tin u don't even need to touch the box and you know what number the spectator choose. the fact that you can be several feet away when the spectator does all the work makes it a very effective attention getter. if i find the name of the trick i might even post a review :D

Self-Working Table Magic by Karl Fulves has a chapter on dice. I also highly recommend the Dr Sack dice routine, which is a real eye-popper for 1-2-1 use; I learned it years ago from "Classic Secrets of Magic" by Bruce Elliott, but it's now sold separately.
