If you want to have some fun get yourself something like a vanishing pen or a regular non-light version of a d-lite. I don't know how much that costs but less that $30 I'd imagine.

EDIT: I didn't notice the 1-10 bit. The vanishing pen is about a 2. The other thing is probably a 5. Compared to a card-trick involving a couple a of sleights being a 6-7.

Fraud by Garcia is jaw-dropping, unusual and (from what I understand) requires no big skills (a single, easy, built-in sleight with acres of cover). However, I think it's far better suited to American bank notes (though, I glean, you're American, so that's no problem), and it does require a great deal of work in the preparation - that's to say, once you're set up, you're set up and can choose your moment even months later, but it takes a long time to 'get things ready' in the first place. However, it's far less likely than D-lites to have people say, 'Oh, I know that - they sell them in the local supermarket.'

Quite honestly, though, a good book with loads of effects and principles - Wilson's Complete Coarse, say, or Paul Zenon's Street Magic - is going to serve you better than a single effect.
