Yes, I have this effect and it's easy to use and gets a good response despite exposure in Paul Zenon's book. I recommend learning some switches first.
As long you get your angles right, this is very astonishing to a lay audience.

yeah, thats cool. I once remember seeing a street magician 'tearing' a 50p in half, but me, with my stupip powers of obsivation happened to see a little thing like the date on the coin he 'borrowed', and it kinda ruined it for me! i just dont want to fall into the same pitfall! cheers guys!

THe glimpse that you had is nothing to do with the trick - it's all to do with the skill, or lack of it on the street magicians part. However, even the best sometimes get caught.

You just have to make sure that you are the best that you can be before you take anything out to show the public.

The date on a coin isn't something a person usually 'glimpses'. It sounds like this guy suspected you were going to switch the coin and checked his.

Very little magic, no matter how well performed, isn't secure against a spectator determined to spoil things.

There's NEVER a question asked if your performance is fluid, and with something like cig thru coin, it's visible from at least 20ft away, so if you are worried about eagle eyed spectators, get some distance!

Derren Brown describes a handling for the cig through pound in the dvd of his lecture in London 1999, where there is no question of a duplicate being used.

He just mentions it as an example of how he gets out of using a gimmick, but its worth the price of the dvd. It takes a little bit of skill and a lot of nerve, but it melts people.
