Last Saturday, I did my first "real" street magic performance. I've done a bunch of stuff around the city with strangers before but I have always been careful to limit myself to two or three people, or sometimes a larger crowd at a party.
On Saturday, I went to the "Cavalcade of Lights" show. It's basically a tradition here in Toronto for the month of December, it's a night of light shows, fireworks, food, etc. Since it was quite dark and there were hundreds of people there, I wasn't entirely sure what to do. But then I decided to pull out my pair of D'Lites. I've been working on a routine for about a month but had yet to perform it to anyone.
I started out by wandering around on my own, just tossing the light back and forth. A few young kids instantly latched on to me and I started tailoring my perfomance to them. Before I knew it, I had a crowd of over 30 people completely surrounding me. I must have gone on for about 10 minutes, just improvising new moves, using the crowd. It was amazing, the kids were laughing, the adults were smiling, everyone was having fun. I finished up, gave them a little wave and walked away calmly to thunderous applause.
I love magic.
