Hi, im new in these forums and wondering what decks should i buy, or stay in old old ones.

So, i have been doing some tricks with copag 100% plastic deck, but should i buy some bicycle decks?
I have heard many times, that i shouldnt use plastic cards, but why not?

Why all pro's are using bicycles in dvd's?

Where i should buy those decks? where is cheapest decks and how much would 5 decks of normal bicycles cost (in euro's)?

Oh, almost forgot. What about that master edition?

bike are much nicer to handle than ordinary plastic cards although you can perform perfectly well with them. Another reason many people use them is that they have become a kind of standard with many gaffed decks using bike backs.

They're very common in the US it seems, which would explain why they are popular.

Most magic shops on the net will stock bike cards.

Bicycles are the common name in magic, like nike or adidas in sport.

They are incredible to handle and the texture and general composition of the cards make them perfect for magic.

Would definately reccomend you get a pack in your collection.

As for the master edition, i personally have never used them, but again, from peoples reviews, they appear to just be a step up from normal bicycles.

For the beginner i would advise on just using normal bicycles, mainly because when you first begin you usually go through quite a few decks.

What about tricks where people make signature in their card. Is here anyway to wash it away (after trick ofc), or some pen which make that possible?

Or should i just destroy one card completely.


(I have royal road to card magic dvd set and crash course 2, but ambitious card routine isnt that nice without signature in card.)

Should it be poker size or bridge? I have been doing everything with bridge size so far.

Why Bikes? Well, they're dirt cheap and nice to handle. I regularly give away a thought of card to a spec if they're freaking out. It seems to calm them down a bit, but you then need another deck, so cheap is good.

I have been advised to switch to poker. They are larger than bridge cards but also most gaffed decks will be poker sized. Also, they make your performance with bridge decks much easier as they are smaller so borrowed decks will be a breeze.

Just what I've heard though, no experience behind it

Bicycle cards are very nice to handle (not that there aren't other good handling brands) and most gaff cards are made on Bicycle stock....pretty much thumbs it up I think......as far as bridge vs. poker, I think the same two points really apply as well.......

Not really, I usually let the spectator keep the card. I have a deck or two of spare cards which I use to top up my performance deck from so it's always a complete deck.

think of it this way, if you give away a card from a deck, then you can always use that deck for practice, for making a "thick" card, short card and mercury folds and so on...

You can pick up a pack of 12 bicycles for about £10 from kostco (if anyone you know has membership). If your serious about magic you will go through cards no end.

Otherwise go to magicbox- packs are about £1.25/1.50 but when i buy single packs I always buy bicycle seconds. These are packs in which usually one card has alledgedly suffered a printing fault (ive been doing magic for a few years using bicycles and have NEVER found fault with ANY of the cards included) and for only a £1 a pack its an absolute bargain!

You cant impressively fan etc with 100% plastic deck. When you handle your first set of Bikes or Tallys you wont want to switch back, trust me

Bikes and Tallys are dirt cheap when buying in bulk.

I dont let spectators sign cards, only for TORN. I just cant be bothered to waste my cards on people just yet.. if you dont have the money to keep replacing decks, dont let people sign. It does lessen the effect slightly but it depends who you perform for. Sometimes for an ACR Ill let them sign but I dont find it makes much difference personally

Yeah, I've been struggling with card spreads and fans, but only got my first Bicycle decks through a few days ago. I could do reasoable ribbon spreads straight from the box. Cheaper than the cards I'd been using, too.
