rising card deck

Postby ericpuddin » Jan 5th, '07, 21:52

hi guys need help please.

I am a young budding magician, and brought my first real magic trick with some money i had from crimbo. It was the BICYCLE RISING CARD DECK. it came today, and for the last 3 hours i'v been trying to perform it, it works one way but not the other (you hear and feel the weight drop).
Am i doing something wrong, or am i just very unlucky and have received a faulty trick? please could some one help me??

It should work smoothly both ways - if it's brand new, just keep using it both ways for a while and see if you can 'ease' it into action. If hand held, make sure you aren't holding the deck too tightly and, failing that, have a word with the people where you bought it from and see if they can offer any suggestions - if it's truly faulty they should be happy to exchange it.

Raising card can actualy be a very strong effect. Some years ago in Lund, Sweeden, Jeff McBride told us (a little group of Magicians) that raising card (a version where a spectator is holding the pack with the rising card, and standing 10-15m away from the magician), is one of the strongest closeup effects he is doing. He explained his method but this is obviously not for me to reveil! Sorry gals and guys...

Magic is slight of mind!

The deck's mechanics are very delicate. Any slight bow or distortion of the cards can leave the deck malfunctional.

Handle it gently, and try and un-buckle and flatten any surrounding cards until it works smoothly. Also, hand motion needs to be gradual.

Kundalini is meant to be good but I dont have it.

I think I worked out why my previous Rising Card decks all malfunctioned quickly. People had a habit of throwing the deck down when they reealised what was happening, not good for the deck me thinks!!

Mine did break after a few days of having but I've managed to fit it, although it rises a lot slower now than it should. Does anyone have any advice on fixing this problem? Please PM me if you do.
I am tempted to take it apart but don't want to ruin it.

It should get easier as you do it it just takes time and practise

The rising deck is probably the most requested from all my friends. I've only done it for them once but I've been able to practice new tricks because of it ever since.

It's worn now. Lots of wear and tear mostly from trying to come up with new tricks with it.

Wouldn't it be great if I could just send it to someone to be fixed? Like a Magic Craftsman of some sort.

I suppose they're fairly cheap to buy but if they don't last long...
It's a great effect though and always gets a good response with little word needed from the magician.
Mine is rising a lot slower now and not being an arts and crafts kind of person would probably make it worse if I took it apart!

hmmm i never bought this trick.. instead i made my OWN :D its kinda differnt than the card rising from out the top.. its more like The Haunted Deck! where u place there card back in the deck, lay it down in your hand and just with a wave cuts it self.. im sure you have ALL! heard of this effect :)
