OK Seige point conceded, you win.
but perhaps they're young at heart, physical and mental age can be very different. I myself have the mental age of a seven year old

Well, my comedy heros are Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayall, and what really makes me laugh is Dirty Sanchez.

But for some reason, Borat just curdled my milk a bit...

But, I know rucks of people who hate Rik/Ade, so it's fine. I am not saying Borat is WRONG as such, but just my own opinion. ;)

I enjoyed Borat but if found it a lot tamer than I expected, particularly after the furore on Trevor MacDonald Tonight concerning comedy going 'too far'. The tv series was much stronger and far more offensive.
I think SBC acts the part well and manages to keep a straight face and this film reminded me of, if anything, Peter Sellers "The Party".
Still, comedywise, I think nothing will ever come close to Benny Hill....ever! :D

...and if you liked Sellers in The Party, you should definitely check out Jacques Tati's Mr Hulot movies - particularly M Hulot's Holiday and Mon Oncle. Blake Edwards had obviously been overdosing on Jacques Tati movies when he made The Party.

Mon Oncle really creased me. The silly little paths and the Wife having to run to get the doors open for the car was preciously "modern". Loved it from start to finish. I didn;t know anything about Tati before that. Blockbuster Online took nearly a year to come up with it, though...

Rik and Ade are the only ones I still really rate from the Comic Strip. I got the Complete Comic Strip last year and it still makes me laugh. "Back To Normal With Eddie Monsoon" anyone?

Funny you should say that as I was watching Mon Oncle this afternoon. A friend of mine kindly got me the DVD for christmas. I do like Tati's stuff and you can see the influence in other comics such as Benny Hill, partcularly silent things like Eddie In August.
Yes, Tomo, I also have the fab [/i]Comic Strip box set (which is sadly missing the excellent Eat The Rich)
Did you know there was an earlier version of
Eddie Monsoon which was too strong for Channel 4? Apaarently you can read the script somewhere but I can't recall for the life of me where. :?

Surely it was "Eddie Monsoon a life" probably the funniest satire I've ever seen, and don't forget Peter Richardson was the main script writer of most of the comic strip stuff as well as staring in it.

Whatever an amazing series of comedy never to forgotton by those who have seen it :D
Especially fistful of travellers cheques and bad news tour.

The Comic Strip stuff was full of pure class. The problem was, soooo many people just 'didn't get it'.

I guess I am probably guilty of the same with the Borat movie. I just didn't get it. But like I said, each to their own. I still personally think Dave Allen and George Carlin are two of the funniest people that ever lived, but not everyone's with me on that!

It was the cancelled Channel 4 show he offered that producer certain services to re-commission.

I must say I am a massive bottom fan... .. let me rephrase that

Rik and Ade are comic geniusus, but comedy is extremely subjective, what works for one person might not work for someone else.

like most things in life we all have our own opinion.................. :D

I loved the Young Ones, but never really got into Bottom.

And on a related note, what the hell has happened to Ben Elton? It seems like everything he's written out in the last ten years has been utter piffle or just lowest-common-denominator dreck. The Thin Blue Line, We Will Rock You and Tonight's the Night spring to mind especially.

Since Thatcher went out of power he lost it!
Now he's champagne Ben the socialites socialist.
I despised his stand-up, saw him supporting Rik Mayall as Kevin Turvey in '82 and it was like a political rant. And this man had the cheek to criticise Benny Hill!
Any of you Rik fans read his recent autobiography? It's certainly not like any other book of it's kind!

dont get me started on Elton, cant stand the man, taking the mickey out of Benny Hill (fair enough) but then when he got onto BBC2 with his own show, what was it full of? bums, willies and jobbies...idiot...

ahem...well Borat/SBC, ok, he's hardly Lenny Bruce, Peter Cook, Richard Pryor or Bill Hicks, but, well, basically letting people highlight their own -isms and stupidity is fine by me :D

it's hardly citizen kane, but its not pretending to be either is it...

ah comic strip, mixed emotions on that...Mr. Jolly lives next door will always have a special place in my heart...

ahem! i could never get into Bottom  (however hard i tried), it was ok i suppose, but i hated the Young Ones not cos it dissed Mrs. Thatch, but i just didnt find it funny...i was probably too busy obsessing over Monkey, reading comics and playing my zx spectrum...

Well, of course, Monkey is the single greatest thing ever to happen to television.

But I digress...
