Well I bought mine off of ebay, any of them seem to work good. Its just I set the actual leather on fire somehow and now the edges of the wallet are burnt :(

Sorry to tell you Delude, but it must be faux leather - real leather shouldn't burn at those sorts of temperatures - if you're buying a wallet in an asian market etc, they'll often hold lighters up to the wallet as a way of proving that it is real leather.

I think that's the issue with fire wallets - russell, I've got one you can have for a pint of bitter and a dairy milk, but it's fairly bog standard quality. For it to last and to be reliably fire resistant all the way through, it should be real leather, but unlike CtWs they don't tend to be the sort of thing you want to use as your real wallet - most people only use them occasionally - and so are begrudged to pay for a quality leather item, which is why I don't think there are many great quality fire wallets on the market - someone, feel free to prove me wrong!

Well I think I went a bit OTT on the lighter fluid at first and got it everywhere

fire wallet

Postby artinct » Jan 15th, '07, 18:44

I dont have a fire wallet but am thinking of making one. "I'm on a limited budget" and enjoy making my props. I heard mention of "lighter fluid" being used. Wouldn't flash paper be better? An intense flash that doesn't last long enough to do burn damage. I'm just getting into using flash paper and am looking for more ways to use it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Interesting thought. A flint held onto a roughened steel strip by a spring ought to produce enough of a spark to get things going.....
