whats your favourite trick ... to perform

Postby rvoice100 » Jan 23rd, '07, 12:33

not for the reactions but one you love performing because you have got your own handeling, made the trick up, are great at it, it doesnt take much thinking etc,

mine is prob sankeys in a flash, simply because its easy to master and means i really concentrate on my performance, oh and it includes coin, cards and FIRE lol

My own "Poker Faced", without a doubt. A lovely bit of business. Presented as an experiment but totally self working.

I love performing the psychic compass from self working mentalism. I've got a lovely patter for it and it's great fun to perform because it's so different from my usual style.

Anything with a TT.

Or, more recently, Vernon's original twisting aces routine. I revisited this recently, and it's a joy to perform. And people absolutely love the effect.

That's a point! Lawrence's Oracle Deck. It's a complete headswim. How can you possibly "force" such a free choice?

i've started doing a version of it with a differently put together deck and a force i like to call the "there's no way i could be forcing this is there?"-force
I'm actually building up a nice little somewhat mentalist routine around it,

Even though the tricks I can perform decent are very limited :D I will give it a go.

So far my fav trick to perform was OOTW. Very simple, great reactions not very much space for mistakes.

My current fav is something I came up with while studying the RRTCM 5 DVD set. It is a variation of "Obervation Test" with a stripper deck. I really get great reactions !

I like to perform a trick i call miracle worker its a few classics put together for one routine. i give the spectator a free choice of numbers pick between 1-52 whatever they pick i count to that card then pull it out and no one sees it we leave it face down then i force the same value of the card on them so say its a queen i force another queen on them then they place it back anywhere in the deck and it ends up sandwiched between the other two queens. I like my patter to it thoe because i reveal the queens one by one, and i say something like whats the chances of picking the QOD in a pack, theyll say 1 in 52, then the second card gets turned over another queen oh thats a coincidence then the third, then i say now thats impossible then the forth is another queen and ill say something like thats a miracle, did you know you could perform miracles etc. Its more indeph than that when i perform it but thought id give you an insight. I always use this as my opener as well because it gets great reactions and plus your making them look good so now theyll love you for the rest of the act because you have shown them they are as good as you. (or they think they are  )

My favorite is partly my own creation, but based on a very clever idea that still is a highly guarded secret. After the spectator has shuffled (and examined) the cards I take a pen out and sign a card (that was chosen randomly by a spectator) on the back. My signature is clear and bold and written with a permanent marker. I tell the spectator (who was randomly selected) that in a little while he/she is going to think of any card - absolutely any card. I claim that the card will be the card I just signed (though - as I point out - I do not know which card I signed).

I then breifly make a few cuts to the deck and slowly spread out the cards so all spectators can see their faces. I ask the spectors to notice that the cards are all different and then ask the chosen spectator to think of any card.

I ask the spectator not to be influenced but for example if the card show a bit more or a bit less. It really a completely free choice.

The I pick up the cards give them a brief shuffle, and give the deck to the spectator. I ask the spectator slowly go through the pack and put down - face up for the dramatic effect - the card they though of. All spectators see this happens can can clearly see different faces of each card, and also see a card the spectator place face up on the table.

I then very cleanly take the remaining cards and explain how impossible this is. I pretend that I kind of realise that this really cannot work... Then I spred out all the cards on the table back up and the spectator can see there is no card with any signature - this happens simultaneously with me asking the spectator to turn over the card they just though of!!!
And YES this is (always) their card!!!

This effect is NOT done on TV and no parts of the presentation has been cut away! I used is OVER and OVER again and it is "literatly" my signature effect. I am quite paranoided of other magicians "stealing" the idea. I am even a bit nevous explaining the effect since the very fact that such a feat is possible might help someone to work out the key idea. Anyway I am sure I will perform it for some of you in Briton!

I also have a version where two sepetators think of a card (one a red one a black card) and I sign two cards (I might even add a simple geometric shape (chosen bu the spectars) e.g. a litte square on one card and a little triangle on the other card to distinguise them fro each other). Again the spectators find their card themselves and place them face up on the
table. And both card (always) match the spectators free choice.

Sometimes I even asks other spectators also to think of cards and they are also asked to remove the cards they though of. Again - the chosen spectator - who always for obvious reasons is the most amased - thought of the card that was signed. The other spectators cards (they also removed from the pack) have of course no signature.

I know that this sounds like a Derren Brown effect and believe me it IS.
It is absolutely killing and often I see the spectators investigating the ink from the marker to see if its somehow gimmicked .....

A common responce is that "you just proved that I have no free will...."

Magic is slight of mind!

Well it's a hard pick so I will choose one for each category

For close-up - ACR, the first heavy slights effect I have learned and still my favorite simply because I can improvise with it, I have about 8-9 stages in my head and I just pick a few and mix them to create a different effect every time.

For stand up (street and parties) - once it was an effect I did that is a bit like the ending of the Copperfield/James floating rose routine that I did to ladies, but now my favorite is a routine I call "Voodoo connection" which is basically a 2 stage routine using a smoker. First stage is my take on Garcia's "Warning" (only I learned it from a book I got off Amazon for 3$ :)), in the second stage I either do a version of Luke Jermay's "PK lipstick" or just a simple ash to palm effect, depends on the mood. Get gasps every single time.

For stage- Snow storm in china, I have no Idea why, but I'm just in love with this simple effect. Every time I perform it, especially with the right tune I get an amazing adrenalin rush that I just can't explain.

After three months in the game, I like performing Out of This World (DB variation), but need to work on the patter to get a stronger reaction.

Belive it or not its not the sponges for me. I love performing triumph. And Greg Wilsons ring leader.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.
