Kung Fu Cards...

Postby chriscross_3 » Jan 24th, '07, 23:07

Hello all.

Just wanted a little advice about this particular trick I am practising. It's the trick where the finale has you slapping some cards out of the spectator's hand (clenched as a fist), to leave him clutching his card, while the others fall to the floor. I use this along with a Kung Fu patter about my martial arts ability.

However, one problem I'm finding is that when I hit the cards (which I do with my index finger only), almost all of the time (using various spectators) ALL off the cards fall to the floor.

Am I hitting the cards too hard/soft or is the grip I am asking of the spectators incorrect?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Chris.

Seems to me like the spectator may not be holding the deck tight enough. It all depends which card you would like to stay in the spectators hand, and where abouts in the deck it is.
Cheers

When I did this trick (I think the last time was about 3 years ago maybe even more LOL^^) what I did was that I hold the deck (so I could control how strongly it's held) and have the spec hit it.

But to your problem I'll say, just make sure the spec is holding the deck strongly enough, you can make sure by trying to "steal" the deck from his hand, and if you can, tell him to hold it stronger "or any one could steal it from you" and make a gag out of it, or something like this, that will make sure he will see in holding the deck strongly a challenge, and therefore WILL hold it tight enough.
Notice I said HE, this is not a thing to do to a lady, not only because she needs to hold on to it while you hit it, and not all ladies can handle that. It's just not a polite thing to do to a lady, so for ladies I would take my approach of holding the deck yourself and having the lady hit it (This has a lot of room for gags and funny bits).

Is this the trick that's all over eBay?
Didn't your instructions explain this problem and how to overcome it?

the way i get the spec to hold the deck, is in a 'joy stick' grip, have their fist clenched as if they are holding a joy stick, they put the deck over their index finger, about a third of the way down the deck, and tell them to put their thumb on top, and squeeze...

I dont believe this is exposure (how to HOLD a deck??) if it is, i apologies, and will accept its deletion...

Dont own the deck but just had a fun thought, could you not have one spec hold the deck and another hit it? That would be cool. You'd have to give good instructions, but if you pulled it off, that would be wowtastic.

its not a gimmicked deck, mate, its on old trick called (well, i tried to find it, but i couldn't!) it IS on the lines of Kung Fu production, or something like that, easily accessible in books even from Marvin... good trick, if you dont mind the 51 card pick up after...

Cheers for the tips guys.

I love this trick - it gets such good reactions every time, and it's not difficult to do, it was just the final part which was a bit hit and miss. And no it's not a gimmicked deck. It works really well if you come up with a convincing patter about how skilled you are in the field of martial arts.

One of my faves, I hope others use it too!

Chris.
