The Blackpool Magicians' Club Convention have already registered 2,500 magicians from all over the world... and it looks like it's heading for a complete sell out! Arthur Casson the Registration Officer has drafted in additional staff to cope with the unprecedented number of enquiries. The BMC believe that the popularity of the Convention has increased even more this year due to the extended Dealer opening hours (from 1pm on Friday 23rd February) and the booking of 16 International Close-up performers for the first time.

WHY Blacpool? Don't the organisers realise that there are people in the South that also perform magic? Why on earth do they not have the venue in Brummie land somewhere, I mean it makes so much more sense.

I live on the south coast and whatever way I travel, it will cost me an arm and a leg. They even stage the event in the winter so no one can attend on motorcycles. Absolutely crazy.

They would double the capacity if they held it in the Midlands. Why not hold it in Fort William?

I won't be attending.

Well, I come from germany and even fly there and go by train.

If everything would be easy and cheap and be done without effort, then it would have no value at all. ;)

Why Blackpool you ask

The convention is organised by a small band of unpaid volunteers who do a terrific job. This event has grown over the years to what it is now and it has grown steadily and wonderfully. It would be impossible to have the event elsewhere unless some other organisation took over the full running - and that will never happen.

Blackpool is a mid point of the UK (dont forget Scotland) so where better to offer the people cheap and plentiful accommodation ?

Heaven forbid it ever rains in the summer where you live - maybe you could apply for a refund on your bike tax. I must write a letter to the FA asking them to stage the Fa Cup Final in Scotland this year so that I can watch it locally - oh and it must be in July so I dont get cold ! I will put a word in with the Blackpool Magicians Club for you next year and see if they will hold it in your town - I have also sent a letter to God regarding the seasons of the year for you but reckon he will have his hands full as he has already had requests for Blackpool to win the FA Cup and Wayne Rooney to become good looking :)

The Convention will be enjoyed by thousands of magicians from all over the world this year and for many years to come - I would suggest you do the same once the blinkers are removed.

As a natural born Brummie I'd love to see such an event locally but let's face it, the Blackpool guys have put in many years hard work and, like Topsy, the thing has just growed and growed so they richly deserve their success - it's become the largest convention of it's kind in the World! The venue is excellent as it has all those areas to be used plus the full sized theatre and, as has been mentioned, there's lots of budget priced accommodation available in the region. The added bonus is that it's a weekend away somewhere other than at home which tends to make the event even more fun!

I ride my motorcycle ALL year round, a few hundred quid on all-weather gear has paid dividends. I LOVE my bike :D

I dont think the temperature will affect the program in anyway, considering its held inside a massive heated function centre...

Blackpool is an institute to magicians in my opinion, and if you say to a fellow magician "are you going to Blackpool" they automatically know the event and dates of what you are talking about.

AT the end of the day, the team who organise the convention have created something that has run sucessfully for 55 years now, which sells out every year, and gets the biggest names in magic to attend, wether they be spectating, or giving their star lectures and performances, or selling us their wares on the Dealer Stands.

I live in Skipton, and in previous years, ive made the effort to get there, despite even owning a driving liscence, so this year I cant wait, because I can actually get myself there, and I would do no matter where it is, but its the Blackpool convention.
