So if Tom Cruise, or his production company, has picked up the options but shelved the idea I guess that means nobody else will be able to make the film unless they buy the rights. Perhaps we should have words with Mr.C and let him know we'd like to see films made rather than shelved please.

Not sure if it's elsewhere, but here in the states, there was a movie released in 2000, called "Magicians":

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0188045/

It's about a con man and an aspiring magician (who's idols are Sigfried and Roy) who come together and put together a magic act. It's a really humorous look at magicians. There's one scene that shows them practicing the "sword through assistant", they practice all night on it. Then when it comes time to perform it, they mix up the bendable sword with the real sword, and hilarity ensues. In the end they come up with a really awesome trick and "make it."

It's like the "lighter side" of magicians. Very funny.

According to the projection department at my cinema, the release date for 'The Illusionist' is March 3rd along with a comedy film called 'The Magicians'. 2 magic films on the same day! :) BTW 'The Illusionist' is out on retail dvd if you check ebay :D My order is in the post :D. It was released to the cinema in most countries in November!
