Take a girl out

Postby Beardy » Feb 6th, '07, 17:28

An interesting thought occured to me today. Whenever i take a girl out for a date, even when we are together, I never pay. We always split it either way. Iv always thought that guys generally pay for the whole thing, but I never actually have.

My reasons is that not only do I not have much money anyway ;), but I also think that you would only ever want to be with someone who isnt only there to be "treated". Now I'm not saying I wouldnt occasionally, because I have once or twice in my life, but I have friends who pay for the meals, tickets, travel money, whatever, *all* the time.

I'm just wondering what you guys do/did, and what your reasons for it are, and whetehr you do what I do, and...well...not :P

Just been thinking about it today, and wondering whether I am alone in being a cheap-ass ;)

Love

Well if a guy took me out and didn't pay, I'd drop him on the spot

No, only joking. :D It is quite nice for the guy to offer to pay but I'd usually refuse and pay my half. I don't think she'll think of you as a cheap skate if you don't pay for everything, esp if it's a nice place that you've taken her to. Although it never hurts to buy her a couple of drinks :D

Tsk.

Women want equal opportunities, equal treatment, equal rights...

And yet they STILL expect to be bought dinner!

Double standards ahoy!

Being skint isn't being a cheap-ass. Basically, you're the good time she's having. Be entertaining and even make a joke of your financial situation. For instance, as you're walking home, "When I'm rich, I'll have the butler walk home for us."

Well what i used to do before i met mrs lindz say for instance if iwas in a club and met a girl i would ask her if she would buy me a drink, well i would throw it in as a joke and surprisingly i got a lot of drinks so i knew they wernt just out for a free night and if they brought it when i see them again id pay for the meal or whatever because then id know there not after my money {not that ive got any but} but if they didnt buy me a drink then if we went out again id probally make them pay half.

Being brought up in the age of the dinosaurs, my thoughts are that if I asked someone out then I wouldn't expect them to pay at all. If they offered to contribute then that's different but I'd still be very unhappy about it. Even today if Mrs.M starts to open her handbag in public I get very uncomfortable. Nothing to do with being sexist or anything, just old fashioned ways which refuse to die.

My sons have completely different ways and the idea is to share and share alike - it works for them very well indeed so there's no need to be like me :D !

Often they expect to wear the trousers, they can at least carry the wallet too.

edit... hmmm, if the missus decides she wants to wear the trousers does that mean I can wear her panties?

You're a true gent, Mandrake. :D

I think most girls are happy to pay their fair share these days, but I do agree with Mandrake that the one who did the asking (regardless of sex not on the first date I hope) should at least offer to pay. Although when guys have taken me out in the past I've always offered to pay my half.

my rule is if i've asked her out, i pay for the first date's eating/drinking, cab home...

after that, 50/50 to be honest...it's the only way...though if its somewhere i especially wanted to go to then maybe 65% me...35% her...

always carry a calculator!

if a woman expects to have equal rights, they should expect an equal right to have to pay half the bleedin' bill...

especially if they've just ordered a salad, but also eat a bit of my steak 'n chips..."cos it looks so nice..."

and when they return from the toilets, always ask them if they've washed their hands

See what I mean about Invoices!

A lady can open a door herself, carry her own shopping and women work now days so they can pay there own way. Unless you agree to pay half then make sure you draw contract up....

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

hehe - well in the past I have never had a trouble...I just make sure they know the law from the off......I very rarely, if ever, pay the whole thing :P

when she asks why I explain that I have CUPS, then she says "well so do I".....then I explain that it isnt those kind of cups :P
