Youtube... when good magic goes bad!!!!

Postby damien60 » Feb 9th, '07, 21:15

Looking through TalkMagic, youtube seems to get mentioned quite a lot. Most of the time for all the wrong reasons..i.e 'magicians' showing poorly rehearsed tricks in front of an out of focused camera and some really dodgy music most of the time...i actually got annoyed myself when i saw 'impossible matrix' being preformed a few times..the videos were like instructional videos on how to do the trick, and very badly at that.
But on a positive note these videos made me take a look at my own routines and made me practice even harder. Anyone feel the same?

I agree. I think youtube is both good and bad for magic. It will give those out there who wouldn't otherwise get it more exposure. Yet, it will also give techniques and methods a bit more exposure as well.

And I think each of those points has its good and bad too. For example, more exposure of technique will mean that magicians cannot become lazy. Those who are will just kinda sizzle out, but the rest of us will be forced to become more flexible and work harder at our art.

I agree. Seeing some kid preform a boring and tedious version of triumph got me really thinking about my preformance of many tricks.
