Slippy Fingers !!

Postby StevieJ » Feb 18th, '07, 04:32

Thought I would throw this out there to see if anyone else had the same problem.

I happen to have extremely dry skin, which causes problems with grip or purchase on cards mainly. For example when performing the EC or other effects were one has to slide a card of the deck, palming of the deck etc.

I have tried various solutions suggested by fellow presdigitators, the most succesful of which being Rose Water and Glycerin. I was just wondering if any of you good people had any better ideas. The main problem being anything giving good grip tends to make the cards sticky.

I must say that......up until December of this year I would not have beleived that excessivley oily or dry skin would create an issue.....cards and fingers are just cards and fingers....right? Well I live in an area Canada that is very dry (low humidity) almost desert like conditions at times.....and I was performing in California this December, and being by the ocean created tremendous humidity (relative to what I was used to)...it took quite a number of hours/days in my hotel room to get comfortable handling the cards with the sticky fingers...I also found that the humidity created a softer feel to the cards, and they would bend much easier.......so I now am a FULL BELEIVER in the differnce that these types of things can make.

Have you tried either UF Grant's Manipulation Lotion or Sort Kwik Fingertip Moisturiser? I know that some people swear by them. The UF Grant liquid feels like it's going to be really messy whenyou first put it on but it quickly dries down and just offers that extra bit of grip.

My hands are terribly dry, one of the reasons that I shy away from too much card work.

However, if I'm going to do a card set, I start by using Chamberlain Golden Touch Lotion, which gives a tackiness to the skin without leaving residue on the cards.

Mike.

Where can one purchase this said lotion in the UK? Or is there a store outside of the UK which will deliver to the UK?
Thanks

Cards4magic have a range of these balms and they seem reasonably priced too.
