How'd I do?

Postby Lady of Mystery » Feb 26th, '07, 11:30

Well when all you lot were having fun in Blackpool on Saturday I was doing my first paid gig.

I got to the wedding reception and chatted with the bride and groom, they asked my to do a bit of stand up magic in front of everyone before the meal started. Ah that wasn't in the plan, I thought I was only going to be table hopping. Being someone never to pass up a challenge, I said yes. A little bit of thinking on my feet needed here. I started with my sponge ball routine which went down brilliantly and the reaction to my finish where I transformed 4 pink sponge balls into confetti was amazing. I then moved onto some rope work starting with the three rope trick from Mark Wilson's book, presented with a story about Nepalese Sherpas and trecks up everest, some sliding knots and cut and restored and finished with the rope through body effect (thanks to Mark Wilson again). Brilliant reactions again. A few silk vanishes with my TT and I then called the bride and groom up and did my own 'Days of our Lives' trick which I'd put together for this gig.

Then it was onto the table hopping between courses during trhe meal. I'd planned on doing some sponge and rope magic then but having exhausted that during the stand up section I was left mainly with cards and coins. Reactions were amazing to everything and I had a really great time.

The bride asked me if I wanted to hang around for the evening and have acouple of drink, why not I thought and had a brilliant night. Even gave out quite a few of my cards :D

Good stuff Lady of Mystery, sounds like it a successful evening all round.

Did you get really nervous about going up on stage in front of everyone because you weren't expecting it?

Fingers crossed you'll get more work from this.....

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

a bit belated i know but well done, don't expect to get too many comebacks on your cards straight away theres usualy a 6- 8 month turn around on this type of advertising.

nice idea the finish for the sponge balls did you use the ever popular tt or a snow storm tablet.

marks book has so much adaptable material in it that you should dip into it regularly also you might want to consider sponge snack which is great for openers to a sponge routine or a closer but you have a good one already.

Great work lady and proof that variety wins the day!

May it be the first of many similar performances.
