The best reasonably priced metal card guard/protector?

Postby harrison » Mar 7th, '07, 16:33

I have seen a few on ebay and i have seen the one on ellusionist.com but can anyone recomend a durable steel/metal card guard at a reasonable price with no crappy engravings on it?

i am also interested to know wether the one on ellusionist actually grips the cards or just sort of slides over them...

thanks ~~~ harrison :D

stainless steel card guards...available online from most places, 6 or 7 quid...cards4magic.co.uk give you a free deck of bikes if you order from them...a quick google will show the rest...

does this mean that this post should now be locked?

well, yeah, the 6-7 quid ones go the full length and width of a set of poker sized decks...

...those porper ones are lovely, but pricey, which are the ones i think you meant by "cr@ppy engravings"? they add alot more pressure to your pack, which'll prolong the lifespan of your deck...i think you can get a plain black one though...

got a quick question?
do these card guards actually protect your cards? or is it a none-essential gizmo?

Yes, they really do protect both the box and the cards, and also keep the cards flat.

(also, for £6.20, NUMS has the stainless steel ones + a free deck of cards ;))

and do you own one of the ones from cards4magic? do these grip the deck or are they just sleve like

well, its a mix of protecting the case of the cards and keeping your actual deck straightened and safe...it helps iron out a bit of buckling and all that jazz...

i prefer the porper ones though, they seem to have a much stronger grip as it were...but you could always double up on your steel ones i suppose...have them facing each other like a kind of sandwich?

Poker cards are the wider of the two types (standard size in US) and the standard in magic.. Bridge cards are smaller (standard size in UK)

have you actually ever seen a deck of cards before? :D

poker are the bigger...and most commonly used in magic, most gaffed cards are printed in poker size...

wow, i use the crappy WHSmiths ones because there is nowhere near me that sell better cards than these. they seem ok to me.... :)

and i cannot stand those poker cards for some reason, i like minipulation and xcm a shizzle and its easier to do this with a pack of "standard" playing cards i suppose.

You're into XCM and a shizzle, and you use WHSmith cards. :o
I never would have thought it possible.

Yes and No.
I have smaller hands, but I find bridge cards too thin. They're the same length anyway, so I don't think the lack of width matters much.

Get yourself some bicycle bridge size cards, or even try a poker deck if you haven't already.
And it's a lot harder to find gimmicked bridge size cards.
