Slydini Cigarette Routine

Postby harimau » Mar 22nd, '07, 11:35

Hello All,

Heres a video of me performing a cigarette routine based on Slydini and Rocco. I dont acutally know the proper routine but I thought Id have a shot of performing based on the two routines Id previously saw.

Id be grateful if somes magicians could give me some feedback, as I wasnt too sure whether it was good enough to post on the internet. If not I'll remove it.

Cheers.

wow! that was impressive! good job! i don't perform cig magic like that so i can't give you many tips really...but there seems to be a bit too much hand movement...it sort of confuses me and i don't know were to look!

good job though!

I disagree with the routine being confusing - quite the opposite. However, that's not entirely a good thing.

It is obvious you know what you're doing, and your handling of the cigarettes is very solid. What I think you need to improve upon is variations of your vanishes and reveals.

Although I don't perform this style, I am aware of your methods. However, I don't think being "in the know" is a sturdy enough defense, here. Your routine suffers from a lot of repetition. There are no real variations to your vanishes and appearances, and thus - an observant spectator will begin to see your patterns. This will lead them to start looking EXACTLY where you don't want them to.

Your misdirection is alright thus far, but you need to practice variety. Change things up and keep them guessing.

Yes your moves are solid if not a little speedy.

The main bugbear in this performance is as said, a lack of variety. Perhaps include the cigarette box as Slydini did on the Dick Cavett show and continually pluck cigarettes from the air and insert them into the box..

Maybe come up a few of your own vanishes too..

It was good from a never touched cygarette magic point of view (aka: me). I thought there was too much movement and too much hiding and for my liking. I like as simple as possible.

"Look my hands are empty. Now theres a cygarette there". Thats the things that I feel look better - less fingers. But obviously, it depends on the spectator and, if spectators like it, then you must be doing something right

From the little information that I know, Slydini was a magician's magician. Although from a layperson's point of view, a ton of suspicious hand movements took away from the simplicity, to a magician, it was great. New palm/lapping/ and loading concepts were, for obvious reasons, very entertaining. Slydini's TaR cigarette routine works very well on anyone though.

I really enjoyed that, thanks for posting.
The misdirection is never (well, rarely) going to work as well on video as it does in person.
Nice sound track too.

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh

I thought it was pretty good. However, I feel you dragged the trick out for too long and did not have enough variation in the routine. Usually, if I do a vanishing routine like that, I use up to ten different vanishes. With yours it was like:, I don't have a cig in my hands, now there's one in my right hand, now it's gone, now it's back. I was a little bit bored but I respect your handling of the trick.

Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated.

After 2 weeks Ive now watched the video back with all the comments in mind, and I thought the routine is pretty poor. However i'll leave it up so others and myself can compare it to a new cigarette routine that i'll post up eventually.

The vid is shorter and mixes up the vanishes, but probably after thats posted something new will be added or removed. Nevermind its all a learning process.

Thanks again.
