Marvellian Ubiquity Theory says "use the overhand shuffle".

All the controls associated with the hindu shuffle can be used with the overhand shuffle.

I tend to use both for different reasons.

I find that the overhand shuffle is much better for everyday card control where as I like to use the hindu shuffle if I want the spec to replace their card and a random point and then control it.

In my normal handling I like to mix up the overhand, riffle and hindu shuffles so that the spec gets used to seeing all three and wont think anything of it if I have to use one or the other in a sleight.

i really dislike the hindu shuffle. i mean, it's such a dodgey looking shuffle! who shuffles like that? i had never seen that shuffle until i entered the world of magic.

in my opinion, the hindu shuffle is pointless and suspicious, because many people have never seen it before (around here anyway) ang it delivers nothing more then what an overhand shuffle can deliver.

It works very well with Tarot cards which are too large to shuffle comfortably overhand. It's also easier to learn the lift controls with the hindu shuffle then transfer the learning to the overhand.

Otherwise, I agree it's unnatural looking, unless perhaps you are working within the Indian community. The first time I saw the hindu shuffle done well was when an Indian doctor showed it to me, many years ago.

Over hand looks most natural and less suspicious however both shuffles are a key asset to focus on.
