50 GREATEST MAGIC TRICKS

Postby dat8962 » May 12th, '07, 17:36

Tonight on E4 at 9pm if anyone's interested?

I've not seen it before so it should be worth setting the DVD recorder for!

big thanks for this

enjoyed it so much I turned over to the +1 channel to watch the last 20 again. Sad or what? :?

Nice to be reminded of all the tricks as they were performed and not as how I remembered them. Copperfeild floating, the original footage of the zig zag, death saw, Daniels electric chair etc, etc, etc. 8)

Again big thanks for the heads up

It would have been so much better if we saw the tricks in their entirety and without the inane comments from the so called "comedians".

That aside, there were some real gems there.

Me too

Some excellent footage and it was nice to know that the 50 were voted on by members of the Magic Circle rather than lay people.

Stand out moment for me was Paul Daniels with his chop cup and ball routine. An awesome display of precision at speed and he said that he had performed it abour 300 times before he got it to the stage where he was happy with it.

I watched this with a few cans of carling. Cant believe that David Blaine was in the top 20 with his levitation and CTW!

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

Yes, I thought some of the choices were a bit iffy too! I can't remember who it was, but the performer pushing a skewer through his tongue only to reveal it was fake coming in a much higher placing than the Tamariz effect as well as some other stellar magic... a little bit unusual that!

But yes, I enjoyed it nonetheless :D

I read this yesterday and thought to myself that I must remember to set the video recorder ....... guess who forgot to set the video recorder lol :?:

Anyone know if it's gonna be shown again sometime :?:

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Luckily, I caught this on E4 as it was ending, and had the opportunity to set the DVD recorder to catch the E4 +1 showing.

Unfortunately, I was a little too inebriated (no, really! ) to bother to puase the recording during the ad breaks....so missed the last 4 entries  - I'd completely forgotten how long this feature ran!

Some fantastic stuff there, though, and I'm thrilled that I got most of it down; that Paul Daniels Chop Cup routine was so much better than I remember it being originally - just such a shame they didn't show the entire routine

...And poor old Tommy Cooper  It was lovely to see his multiplying bottles again - what a routine...

Needless to say, my 12 year-old son, who's never seen any of Tommy's material previously, was absolutely in stitches - a timeless performance, if ever there was one...Made my weekend!

 You're welcome

I knew about Beadle but was surprised at the number of other commedians and celebs on the show that were amateur magicians. Would be worth watching a show made up of these lot performing

Seen this show a few times now, best trick is no. 49! "Four blue cards" performed by Juan Tamariz. So in your face and direct!

100 times better than no. 50 making the space shuttle dissapear!

Actually, I'd forgotten about the 4 blue card routine and I totally agree. It was mind boggling :? and very skillful indeed and yes, it was much better than many of the entries that gained a higher place.

It's hard to know what the magic cirle members were using as their criteria for marking and how many were asked to vote.

Adam and Joe certainly weren't as funny as they and the producers seemed to think they were.

When this programme was first aired there was a lot of discussion here about that aspect and much scratching of heads as to why magic on TV has to be presented with some kind of strange angle or allegedly 'wacky and zany' approach. The 50 tricks they showed deserved much better than that but at least we got to see some classic stuff so I guess we have to be grateful.
