Haven't we all done it?

A meeting area where members can relax, chill out and talk about anything non magical.

Just because a group of people do it, doesnt make it right... and doesnt make it legal.

The fact of the matter is that its illegal and unethical.

[finding more and more people I dont have to help out on forums.]

I never said that it was legal, my point was that we have all done/do it. And isn't it hypocritical that we can attack people who pirate magical products, but feel no guilt about watching a pirate dvd or a cd burned by a friend. Like lawerence said, the copyright laws cover so many scenarios that we have all (perhaps a generalisation...but I'd put money on at least 99% of us) done it.

Now on your profile, it says you are a busker. Have you ever played a cover of someone elses song? If so did you ask permission or pay royalties? If you read around the edge of the CD it will say 'Unauthorised copying, public performances, broadcasting, hiring or rental of the recording prohibited'.

So perhaps, if you are honest, there is one more person you dont have to 'help' on this forum.

if its done as part of a performance then expect a call from the bover boys.

if its a private party then generaly your ok, also if the venue has cover for performing rights thats ok.
I'm sure we have all done things that fall definatly into grey 'ish areas if not completely illegal, having a cd for every mix cd made up can meen you have to bring an extra suitcase to the party for random inspections, though you do get time to produce all the cd's with the tracks on them, can be a pain.

but to tell a person that is deliberatly trying to harwk there ill gotten gains on a forum were the rules are blantently clear shouldn't be frowned apon just because wev'e all done it, or did i miss the point again. :?:

I wan't defending anyone for selling pirate material, I was just making a point that perhaps, if we are honest, we have all done it.

Perhaps there is a film forum somewhere that is up in arms over film pirating, but cant understand why people dissaprove of magic pirating?
