Show No Mercy: Powerful Magic By Michael Paul

Postby Michael Kras » May 19th, '07, 12:43

This comes in an ebook format, and I can honestly say it is one of the best magic ebooks I own. Michael Paul has created some hard-hitting magic that entertains immensley AND is so fun to perform! My review of each effect is below:

1. Flicker- Michael saved the best for first! A red backed SIGNED card is set on fire. While the flame burns on the back of the card (with NO sleights and absolutely NO cover) the red back is seen to flicker back and forth between red and blue! This is insanely visual. As soon as the flame dies (which happens quickly since flash paper on the deck was the flame source) the back of the SIGNED selection is shown to have permanently morphed into a blue back! The warm card is given away as a souvenir. This is without a doubt the most visual piece of card magic I have seen! To take a concept like the flickering of a television set and transfer that thinking into a card effect is pure genius. Plus, the effect is almost TOO easy! Too good to be true! *****

2. Candy Opener- A piece of flash paper is lit and a "Fireball" candy, inside its wrapper, is produced from the flash. As if that wasn't impressive enough, the Fireball candy vanishes from within the wrapper and appears between the magician's teeth. This is a great opening effect, but unfortuantely can only be done as an opener. ****

3. That's Not Magic (An Essay)- Michael talks about just sticking to the magic... not rambling on with jokes and silly stories when people want to see magic. Great piece of writing that is very informative. One problem though... "That's Not Magic!" ***

4. Flashes And Ashes- Yet another flash paper effect. A card is selected and mixed amongst a small packet of cards seperated from a deck. These cards are layed out in a row, the selection's location unknown. A small piece of flash paper is affixed to the remaining cards in the deck, and lit. The paper vanishes in the fire and leaves ashes in the shape of an ARROW. This arrow points directly to the selected card! This is a startling effect that really packs a punch, but the concept of ashes forming into a shape is nowhere near being new. ****

5. Changing The Change (An Essay)- In this essay, Michael goes into how powerful a simple top change can be to switch a card. Even a visual card change doesn't get near as good a reaction as a simple top change! This essay is very interestig and intriguing. ****

6. Reality Displacement. A signed selection is visually pushed into the centre of a deck. The actual card is seen until the very last moment. Despite the fairness of everything so far, the signed card instantly appears in the performers opposite hand! Quick, visual, and startling magic that needs no words and manages to entertain immensely. ****

7. Visible Coins Across (2 Effects) Two very effective ways of doing Coins Across with the spectator's hands, with one handling even involving the spectators doing most of the work! I like this, and it teaches an ingenious technique that allows the spectator to HANDLE AN EXPANDED SHELL! It also teaches a neat coin vanish that uses a bit of reverse psychology to pull it off.

Overall, I give this outstanding ebook a rating of 9/10. All of the effects are stunning mindblowers that can be pulled off with minimal preparation and gimmicks. Michael Paul has created magic!

Thank you for reading my review!

Why are so many people posting reviews in the wrong area?

This area is Reviews - Electronic media format, this is not electronic what so ever.

As much as I agree with your point about posting in the wrong areas ( ) this one is an e-book so it's in the right place. We didn't want to have too many separate areas so a bit of leeway is involved.
