Thanks for the sympathy Tomo :wink: I survived and after explaining that it wasn't "kids' magic", I spent a good half hour with them and they were spellbound. So it all ended well.

Great post jdcarr. Much as I love Tommy Cooper and much as I respect Paul Daniels, I do feel that in the UK the term "magic" still labours under the "light entertainment" tag. Thankfully I think it is changing slowly - mainly thanks to the 2 DB's.

Yes, doing mentalism to then be asked if If I can do that thing Blaine does would grate me.

For some reason, I hate being asked ' Have you learnt any new tricks? '

It kinda takes away what Im all about and resorts magic to something that can be learned easily/

Rather like going to the opera and then asking if they know any Gangsta Rap. Or vice versa.

"Have you learned any new tricks?" is VERY annoying, especially when delivered in that psuedo-encouraging tone usually reserved for asking four-year-olds whether they've made any new friends at school.
