I got the magicmakers 4 disk (green one!) for free when I ordered with Penguin. I can't complain as it was free but it isn't great. It's not bad either but MagicMakers don't half annoy me. At the start they have a 20second clip of someone from magicmakers saying ' I'd like to thank you from purchasing from MagicMakers, the worlds leaders in Instructional Magic DVDs.'

I couldn't stop thinking, its a shame you can't think up ideas yourself! Also even if everything MagicMakers did create their own stuff, judging by this DVD they are no where near world leaders!

wher do you get Royal Road from. It sounds good.

Just do a search on Google or amazon, or any magic shop...

But..
Why on earth atleast the paperback-version is typed with "Comic Sans" -font???!?!!

I can't read it as it looks so stupid. It doesnt look very "royal" at all.

LOL how true.... I wondered the same thing! Makes for an annoying read.

As others have said, this is a good book to start off on. If you do buy it do everything IN ORDER, thats how you will get the most out of it. One problem is that it can be difficult to follow, you might have to read through each triack a few times. Havn't finished it but it covers TONNES of trick 120 I think.

^ I havn't heard about there being a DVD, though I would also be very interested as soem of the tricks, as I have said before, can prove difficult to follow. A review would be great

The DVD's have already been reviewed elsewhere on this forum. The general consensus is that the 5 disc version by R. Paul Wilson is the better one.
This is the set I have and can confirm that it's excellent. Not only does he cover all the sleights and most of the effects from the book, he also adds his own tips and handlings which are very useful.
Studying the book and this DVD set, plus LOTS of practice, you'll see an amazing improvement in your card skills in no time.

Ok that sounds good, but I'm on a tight budget, so do you think that the DVD offers that much more than the book?

It's the same material, but you can see someone doing it and the camera angles are good. Sometimes the descriptions in the book aren't as clear as they could be and to actually see it being done is like having a teacher in the room with you. It's well worth it if you are serious about card magic.

He also has an excellent effect on there that's not in the book: Roy Walton's Pass At Red - which I have performed often to a good response.

Thanks for the info I had figured there had been a review but I get short periods on the internet at my local library so I could search it out to much. As well I see people saying there broke or want to buy this book or that. The public library here in Los Angeles has a ton of books on magic including royal road. So me personally I like to check them out for the library and determine if in the long term I will place these books in my personal library just a thought. Also barnes and noble, and borders you can sit and read all day then make decisions to buy the books off amazon usually at extremly cheap prices.

I watched the R. Paul Wilson DVDs with my friend who is just starting magic, and they are miracles. If i would have had these getting into magic, I could have spent at least 3 weeks less time mastering the basics. Half of the battle of RRTCM is reading, then deciphering what is written to your hands, then executing the action, then finding the page again because the book closed... the other half is practicing the trick.

The Paul Wilson DVD's are very clear and well filmed. The bloke who helps him out with the demonstrations is a bit of a zombie though!
The additional little tips that Paul add's are worth taking note of. A worthwile purchase along with the book.
