How has magic changed the course of your life ?

Postby shaneking » Jun 8th, '07, 00:19

It changed mine (for the good). Thirteen years ago, there I was in a Disco (sorry, nightclub) with my red jacket on going 'round the tables to the girls and doing magic tricks. It was my chat-up approach - "don't worry love, I work here" seemed better than "hello love, do you wanna drink?". Anyway, I eyed two girls sat alone and I went up to them and started to do some card tricks. I did the tricks to the girl that I didn't fancy in the hope that the other (nice) girl would not be spooked by me, but in fact impressed by being the passive onlooker. Anyway, I ended up dancing with the person I was doing the tricks with and as I did, my friend started chatting up the nice girl - he had just returned from the loo. What a cheek ! He went out with her once and I went out with the dancing partner once too. It didn't work out for for my friend nor me. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I eventually married the nice girl and it took me about three years to convince her that she was the one I fancied out of the two of them on that eventful night and that I didn't want to do tricks to her because I didn't want to scare her away.

What a strange story (but true !). I would love to hear any other heartfelt stories that fellow magicians have where their craft has truly changed the paths of their lives...

You lucky swine

I met my missis because of magic. I was visiting a mate in coventry, went out on the lash, part of the group was my now lovely lady and it was after I did a 10 minute stint that she, obviously impressed and unable to resist, came and sat on my lap.
The rest is history....painful painful history...only kidding if you are reading this honey

In my very early years, it formed a strong bond between me and my dad. Unfortunately, I don't talk to him anymore.

If you feel that it's unfortunate that you don't talk anymore then this suggests that you would like to talk to him again so why not try to do just that?

It is a complex and multifaceted problem that I feel would not benefit from not being discussed on an open forum.

It changed my life quite negatively. Jealous people began to bully me physically and emotionally. I am veyr easy to bully as I am veyr sensitive. I soon got the Police involved because I was truly frightened of these guys, and got my friend Diego Mejia, Constable of Police (Who ironically is also a member of the same IBM ring I attend) is we sorted thjings out. I was so scared that I actually stopped doing magic for people and kept it to myself. I was also forced to Room 104 in my school, a room which is basically the equivilant to a mental institution. The mentally, physicall, emotionally, and socailly challenged outcasts go there. It was the worst experience of my life. I of course am performing more than ever now, but am being very careful to stay away from the bullies and to remain more humble.

I totally appreciate that and wasn't intending to pry. I was simply responding to a comment that you made in an open forum by asking an open question for you to do nothing more than consider.

After i was paralysed down my right side in a car accident i gave up magic, but after a while it became my own form of physiotherapy. It helped me get back on my feet. It also helped with the memory and co-ordination problems i suffered as a result.

Iv had problems socialising in the past. Magic means i can engage my brain for hours at a time while being completely on my own. I think id go crazy if i had nothing to do
